Resideo Senior Manager, Firmware Engineering in Aurora, Illinois

As the Senior Firmware Engineering Manager, you will oversee the firmware development process for our suite of IoT and smart home products. You will lead a team of firmware engineers, drive technical strategy, and ensure the successful delivery of high-quality, reliable, and secure firmware solutions. Your role will involve collaborating with cross-functional teams, including hardware engineers, software developers, and product managers, to bring innovative products to market.

JOB DUTIES:

Leadership & Team Management:

  • Lead, mentor, and manage a team of firmware engineers, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture.

  • Define team goals, track progress, and conduct performance reviews to ensure alignment with company objectives.

  • Provide technical guidance and support to team members, facilitating their professional growth.

Firmware Development:

  • Oversee the design, development, and implementation of firmware for IoT and smart home devices, ensuring adherence to industry standards and best practices.

  • Drive the architecture and technical design of firmware solutions, focusing on scalability, performance, and security.

  • Manage the firmware development lifecycle, including requirements gathering, design, coding, testing, and deployment.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

  • Work closely with hardware engineers, software developers, and product managers to define product requirements and ensure seamless integration of firmware with other system components.

  • Coordinate with quality assurance teams to establish and execute testing protocols, ensuring firmware reliability and performance.

Technical Strategy & Innovation:

  • Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in IoT and smart home domains.

  • Drive innovation by proposing and implementing new technologies, tools, and methodologies to enhance firmware development processes.

Project Management:

  • Develop and manage project plans, timelines, and resource allocation to ensure timely delivery of firmware projects.

  • Identify and mitigate technical risks and issues that may impact project goals or timelines.

Quality & Compliance:

  • Ensure firmware solutions meet quality, security, and regulatory requirements.

  • Implement and enforce coding standards, documentation practices, and code review processes.

YOU MUST HAVE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.

  • 7+ years of experience in firmware development, with at least 3 years in a leadership or managerial role.

  • Proficiency in embedded systems programming and development languages such as C/C++ with a proven track record of managing firmware projects (for IoT or smart home devices preferred).

WE VALUE:

  • Experience with microcontrollers, communication protocols (e.g., BLE, Matter, Wi-Fi), and real-time operating systems (RTOS).

  • Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git) and development tools (e.g., IDEs, debuggers).

  • Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate a diverse team.

  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with a keen attention to detail.

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across departments and with external partners.
