Communicates with research staff and coordinates facility activities.Coordinates husbandry and logistical operations for satellite facilities, including BME, NMS and SEA. Ensures that satellite facility animal care standards are in line with departmental and federal guidelines. Communicates with researchers utilizing satellite housing to ensure that their scientific needs are supported.Ensures compliance with all federal, state, and university rules and regulations. Meets accreditation standards set by AAALAC. Oversees the daily operations and supervision of an Animal Care Program.Maintains an inventory of supplies and materials including feed and bedding, PPE, wash chemicals, and disinfectants.Oversees the daily husbandry operations of NHBand satellite facilities. Prioritizes resources to ensure compliance with established standards at all times. Proactively identifies noncompliance with established standards/standard operating procedures (SOPs) and works with the Assistant Director to formulate a corrective action plan.Performs daily health inspections and animal care monitoring and reports findings to the Assistant Director or Clinical Veterinarian. Communicates findings orally or in writing any health issues and follows their directives.Provides direct oversight in the shipping, receiving and caring for all animals to ensure their health and safety.Provides husbandry and animal care to animals as needed. Ensures that all animal care is administered in compliance with Standard Operating Procedures.Responsible for coordinating logistics of equipment and animal transportation between facilities. Responsible for coordinating the use and maintenance of the ARC truck.Serves as point of contact for information and instructions on animal handling, husbandry, and sanitation techniques. Serves as point of contact for assigned satellite facilities for investigators, staff, and facilities services.Supervises animal husbandry staff working in NHB and satellite facilities. Follows UT and OVPR best practices as it relates to all aspects of employee supervision. Coordinates training for staff. Works with team to prioritize tasks and ensures that all staffing resources are being optimally utilized. Makes recommendations to Assistant Director (AD) regarding recruitment, progressive disciplinary action, and other personnel management tasks. With input from the AD, drafts and discusses annual performance evaluations with employees.Works closely with the Assistant Director to ensure efficient workflow for the Animal Care Facility. Ensures sufficient staff coverage during assigned holidays and weekend work for animal care and cage wash staff at satellite facilities. Ensures completion of assigned tasks.
