Job Summary and Qualifications
As an OB OR Certified Surgical Technologist Coordinator, you will accept responsibility for handling OB OR duties such as instrument disinfection and pathology specimens. You will assist the anesthesia provider and assist the surgeon(s) during surgical procedures and non-surgical procedures. You will be responsible for preparing the OB OR for anesthesia cases and maintain anesthesia supplies and equipment.
You will provide surgery technical assistance as needed including but not limited to: Aseptic technique and universal precautions
You will maintain, troubleshoot and test anesthesia equipment prior to each use.
You will schedule surgical cases and communicate scheduling issues to providers, charge nurse, manager or other involved personnel.
You will prep for procedures, position patients and provide intraoperative care.
You will scrub in as needed to accepted standards, gowning/gloving self and others on surgical team, recognize and correct break in sterile technique, initiate counts during surgical procedures and passing instruments.
You will be responsible for retracting tissue, clamping bleeders for hemostasis, clamping tissue for retraction, cut suture and remove suture.
You will obtain the care and handling of specimens including collection of Cord Blood collection for lab purposes, Cord Blood banking procedures, umbilical cord gas collection, procedures for fetal demise, placenta placement and all surgical specimens per Surgeon’s order.
You will transport and transfer patients
You will maintain log books
What qualifications you will need:
Experience
- 1 year of recent experience as a Surgical Technologist - required
Education
Graduate from an accredited education program for Surgical Technology OR appropriate training program in the US Armed Forces or US Public Health Service
High school diploma or GED equivalent
Licenses and Certifications
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification per St. David’s Healthcare policy
If employee graduates after September 1, 2009, must hold and maintain a current certification as a Surgical Technologist within 180 days from the date of graduation. The certification must be from: 1) The National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting or its successor; 2) The National Center for Competency Testing or its successor; 3) Another surgical technology certification program approved by the department OR 1) Current LVN License or Compact 2) LVN license from a NCLA Compact State
Current certification (as stated above) as a Surgical Technologist
