  • Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college with major coursework in Planning, Geography, Social Science, Landscape Architecture, or a planning related field, plus three (3) years of experience in planning related work.

  • Twelve (12) semester hours of relevant graduate college course work may substitute for six (6) months of required experience with a maximum substitution of two (2) years.

  • Experience in planning related work may substitute for the education up to the maximum of four (4) years.

The Infrastructure Support Services division of Austin Energy (AE) is seeking a Planner III . This position is responsible for facilitating and managing the site plan and plat review process for the utility which includes working directly with both internal and external customers in the office and in the field to resolve conflicts. This position is responsible for meeting the ISO metrics set for the site plan and plat review process.

This position requires working in a deadline-focused environment while balancing multiple projects and changing priorities. This position must exercise good judgment, tact and diplomacy in all dealings while maintaining confidentiality.

This position will be approximately 50% remote and 50% in office attendance to start. Applicant must provide at their own expense a consistent dependable INTERNET service provider, and a safe working environment at their remote location. Ability to work remotely is not a guarantee, and may be adjusted in the future depending on the work group needs, and adherence to Austin Energy Telework Policy.

    TRAVEL :

    DRIVING REQUIREMENT :

  • This position requires a valid Texas Class C Drivers’ License or the ability to acquire one by your hire date. City of Austin employees that promote or transfer into driving required positions must meet the City of Austin’s Driver Record Evaluation ( DRE ) requisite. Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Experience:

  • Familiar with City of Austin planning “ AMANDA ” software

  • Experience writing, reviewing and interpreting technical documents

  • Experience relaying and/or interpreting information to a variety of audiences including governmental representatives, city officials, community organizations and citizens

  • Experience in working with cross functional groups

  • Experience working with development and permitting processes, and the City of Austin Land Development Code

  • Experience working with the City of Austin and Austin Energy utility criteria and electric design criteria requirements

  • Ability to travel to more than one work location

    Duties, Functions and Responsibilities

    Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.

  • Researches information as requested and/or needed. Analyzes data to discover patterns and/or discrepancies.

  • Writes information reports. Writes/drafts legal documents, i.e. contracts, regulations, ordinance amendments, resolutions, etc.

  • Answers citizen questions and provide assistance. Speaks as City representative before boards, commissions, public groups, etc.

  • Reviews plats and site plans for compliance with policy codes, ordinances, standards, etc. Reviews traffic impact analyses.

  • Provides technical advice and assistance to citizens, contractors, departments, management, etc. Coordinates meetings between consultants, public, etc. and city staff. Coordinates division/section activities with other divisions/sections.

  • Interprets/explains/enforces city policies and procedures, building/land development codes specifications, ordinances, etc.

  • Conducts field checks to verify correctness of data. Reviews and evaluates various reports and studies. Maintain project files and records.

  • Develops short/long range plans.

  • Seeks/evaluates/recommends purchase of city property. Monitor contract expenditures.

  • Plans and develops survey instruments, i.e. questionnaires, rating scales, etc., and methodology for use.

  • Utilizes and modifies computer models and statistical packages for planning application.
