The Director, Commercial is a leadership role, responsible for collaborating with multiple stakeholders to oversee the commercial function with the goal of ensuring profitability for the organization and maintaining relevance to clients.

This leadership role is accountable for leading a team of commercial managers and / or senior individual commercial architects, fostering a collaborative and innovative team culture focused on achieving operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manages the preparation of the commercial parts of sales proposals for submission to clients.

  • Ensure adherence to commercial policies and procedures in the compilation of client deals.

  • Drives activities amongst relevant stakeholders to ensure accurate evaluation of deal costs and related deal terms and conditions.

  • Interpret and enforce commercial management governance and methodologies to be used in deal structuring.

  • Accountable for guiding and coaching to the team on what steps must be taken to improve execution of the commercial contracts.

  • Act as trusted advisor to field sales teams on all commercial matters to ensure deal viability and assuming a critical role in structuring large, strategic opportunities that are complex and of high value.

  • Accountable for the definition and management of the implementation of approval matrices and workflows for deal approvals.

  • Manages deal reviews with prospects, sales teams and management.

  • Measure, monitor and report on deal metrics, including items such as discounting and pricing practices, taxation, etc.

  • Provide thought leadership to develop innovative deal structures, manage risk within the contractual terms and structure, and educate the sales team on our latest product bundles and offerings.

  • Review and vet complex deals.

  • Ensure timely delivery of compliant and commercially sound offers.

  • Manage a team of senior commercial architects and/or managers.

  • Strategic and systemic thinker with the ability to take a big picture approach to developing innovative strategies that support and balance both near and long-term objectives for the business.

Academic Qualifications and Certifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Business Administration or Finance or a related field.

  • Master's degree such as an MBA or Finance desirable.

Required Experience:

  • Significant experience working within a Commercial or similar role, preferably within a global IT services organization.

  • Significant track record of working cross-functionally with multiple teams.

  • Significant previous experience in a Commercial management/leadership role within a similar environment or industry.

  • Significant people leadership and management experience.

  • Significant experience in contract negotiation.

  • Significant experience in translating leadership discussions into an analytical decision-making framework.

  • Solid experience with operations, order processing, fulfilment, revenue recognition, legal contracts, purchase orders, license agreements.

  • Significant experience with relevant sales systems such as Salesforce.com.
