Amentum Electrician, Medium Voltage ( Master) NPP in Baghdad, Iraq
The Electrician, Medium Voltage (Master) will be based at a U.S. Facility in Baghdad, Iraq and serve the Operations and Maintenance Support Services (OMSS) contract in support of the U.S. Department of State. This position will be responsible for operation and maintenance of electric power generation and distribution equipment and will report to the Power Plant Supervisor.
The Medium Voltage Master Electrician will be responsible for maintenance and repair of the 11kv power grid, and its associated equipment throughout the site. Low Voltage electrical projects will also be required at times. The duties and responsibilities listed below are representative of the nature and level of work assigned and are not necessarily all inclusive.
DUTIES:
Responsible for maintaining a safe workplace and ensuring that safety is the highest priority in the workplace.
Comply with all Environmental Health & Safety and Quality Assurance requirements and goals. Provide information and materials to these divisions as necessary to ensure adequate and legal documentation.
Main task will be to ensure the entire 11Kv power grid and its associated equipment is operating correctly. This involves regular PM work on all transformer stations that include, cleaning transformers, oil sampling, taking temperature and pressure readings, ordering materials, replacing/ repairing nonfunctioning electronics and UPS systems, thermal imaging, etcetera.
Generate reports with results of PM Inspections.
Electrical grid needs altered throughout the year for maintenance and load balancing purposes. MV electrician in coordination with the power plant is responsible for adjusting the MV grid as necessary.
Assisting the 26MW Power Plant when requested with PM duties such as insulation testing, diode testing, HHRG inspections, cleaning of equipment and annual switchgear maintenance.
Test and repair medium voltage instrumentation and controls, switchgear and protection systems as needed.
Preform Insulation Testing, High Potential Testing and Test Transformer Ratio Values.
Maintain and repair Automatic Transfer Switches as needed.
New construction of power generation sites ensuring a code compliant, safe installation.
Interpret electrical diagrams, manuals, and schematics for the site / specialized equipment. Diagnose, analyze, and repair faults throughout the MV system.
Responsible for ensuring replacement parts are in stock in case of equipment failures or blown fuses.
Report any malfunctions or lack of compliance with Statement of Work (SOW) to the Electrical Supervisor. If the Electrical Supervisor cannot resolve the issue the Chief Engineer should be notified.
Assist in diagnosing issues with switchgear PLC control and auxiliary control systems when required.
Perform fault analysis, implement ANSI, IEEE, and IEC standards.
Perform condition assessments for numerous transformers, electrical insulation, switches, and breaker panels to identify problems before they lead to system failure.
Assist in developing Statements of Work when requested, to including diagrams and specifications in compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and National Electric Code (NEC) standards.
Collect, analyze, and summarize data for report preparation.
Responsible for facility custodianship of work area and management of tools, equipment, and spare parts for the medium voltage distribution system.
Take initiative to analyze a situation and to make frequent technical decisions based on specifications, safety, and electrical codes.
Evaluate operational effectiveness and develop/maintain effective operational control mechanisms.
Make written plans and coordinate so everyone involved is aware of changes to the system.
Assist Low Voltage Electricians when required.
Perform additional duties and projects as assigned.
REQUIRED:
Minimum Acceptable Experience Level:
Five (5) years’ MV electrical experience in operations and maintenance services.
Master Electrician License Recognized by 1 (one) of the US 50 (fifty) States.
Experience working in confined spaces.
Experienced with splicing Ethyl Propylene Rubber (EPR), cross-linked polyethylene (XLP), and multi-conductor MV cables.
Experience working with 600 Amp dead break connections; 200-amp load-break terminations and heat shrink & cold shrink applications.
Education:
A high school diploma or GED.
Completion of an Apprentice program with a Master Electricians License.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of applicable codes and accepted trade practices.
Knowledge of LOTO procedures.
Knowledge and experience regarding occupational hazards of the electrical trade, related safety precautions and considerable skill required for the installation, maintenance, and repair of MV electrical systems and equipment.
Ability to test and maintain digital relays and medium voltage vacuum breakers.
Terminate, troubleshoot, test, & MV cable in both indoor & outdoor environments
Good organizational and communication skills with the ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions independently.
Ability to work in a fast-paced, high stress environment that requires handling multiple tasks at a given time and rapidly adapting to changing priorities and schedules.
Cross-cultural sensitivity with an international perspective.
Excellent organizational and time management skills.
Computer skills, specifically in Microsoft Word and Excel.

Passport, Licenses and Certifications: As part of pre-contingency requirements, by the time the visa process starts , candidates must possess a valid passport of home country with a minimum of 18 months remaining to expiration date with 8 blank pages. Valid drivers’ license from Home of Record.
Security Vetting: Already possess a US Government issued security clearance, Secret Clearance or be able to obtain a favorable Secret Clearance prior to being hired is required for the position. Must maintain eligibility at the required certification or clearance level for the duration of the contract.
Language Skills: Satisfactory English proficiency to meet job requirements and to adhere and comply with safety, health, and security measures.
Medical: Successfully complete and pass the medical and dental examinations as required by Amentum and our customer for deployment to Iraq. Must maintain physical and dental requirements for duration of deployment.
DESIRED:
Relevant overseas MV Electrical experience
Experience in operations and maintenance projects in an international environment preferred.
Experience working around power generation systems.
OSHA and CPR certification.
Ability to use advanced analytical and critical thinking abilities to adapt and overcome situations that may arise.
Leadership experience and ability to design electrical installations.
Experience working with Scope of Work, sub-contractors, budgets, estimating, working drawings, and as built drawings.
Previous experience with Power Utility Companies.
National Cable Splicing Certification Board (NCSCB) certification.
Other certifications in the Medium / High Voltage field will be taken into consideration.
WORKING AND LIVING CONDITIONS:
This position may be in a conflict/ war zone, in an environment with harsh and dangerous working and living conditions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may regularly be exposed to extreme and austere desert-like environment. Temperatures can reach 120- 130 degrees Fahrenheit/50-55 degrees Celsius during the summer months. Employees must be willing and able to perform regular job requirements in this austere, extreme environment, as well as willing and able to deploy to Iraq for extended periods. Work schedules are a minimum of 6 days per week and 10 hours per day, while some jobs have higher daily and weekly minimums. Employees must be willing and able to perform physical activities including, but not limited to, heavy lifting and moving of items, parts, assemblies, and equipment up to the safety regulation maximum; climbing in and out of equipment; crawling; and working outdoors. This includes being able to lift and carry 40 pounds of personal protective equipment for extended periods of time and being capable of running and ‘duck & cover’ during emergencies without putting oneself or others at risk.
