Interior, US Fish and Wildlife Service Supervisory Wildlife Inspector in Baileys Crossroads, Virginia

Summary This position is a Supervisory Wildlife Inspector, GS- 1801-15 working in Bailey's Crossroads, VA for the R9-Chief-Office of Law Enforcement. The Supervisory Wildlife Inspector serves as the Wildlife Inspector in Charge (WIC) for the Wildlife Inspection Unit (WIU) and Office of Law Enforcement (OLE) wide Wildlife Inspection Program (WIP). Responsibilities As a Supervisory Wildlife Inspector, Wildlife Inspector in Charge (WIC), your duties will include but are not limited to the following: Provide expert advice and guidance on inspections and compliance of highly complex and sensitive inspection and compliance issues and policies. Develop plans that effectively facilitate the legal trade of wildlife and combats global wildlife trafficking. Ensure effective integration of intelligence, gathered by the WIP, for use in complex investigations to ensure deconfliction that could result in contamination of on-going investigations and provide actionable intelligence to initiate and contribute to OLE investigations. Develops and presents to the OLE Assistant Director (AD)/Deputy Assistant Director (DAD) long-term planning, budgeting, and execution of the national Wildlife Inspection Program; approves short and long-range Wildlife Inspection strategic plans. Directly supervises a varied sized staff within the Wildlife Inspection Unit. Represents OLE with other Federal Inspection Service (FIS) partners and international counterparts to improve coordination and capacity to effectively combat wildlife trafficking and prevent the introduction of injurious species and wildlife borne diseases. Minimum Qualification GS-15 One year of full-time specialized experience comparable in difficulty and responsibility to the next lower level (comparable to GS-14) in the Federal government. The experience may include: implementing federal inspection program goals and strategies, setting priorities, directing and coordinating overall port operations; conducting preliminary investigations pertaining to illegal import and export of wildlife and/or other commodities in the import/export trade; drafting summaries or reports on import/export issues and of investigations conducted; auditing or reviewing records on import/export activities; responding to inquiries related to import/export inspection work and procedures; acting as liaison with other agencies, tribes, and organizations Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
