The Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) owns, operates, and maintains eight major toll facilities comprised of four bridges, two tunnels, and two turnpikes, across the State of Maryland. Nature of Work: The Regional Facilities Preservation Officer provides technical guidance and support for the Operations Division on various facility maintenance and service contracts across the agency related to building structures and envelopes, roofing systems, plumbing, electrical and mechanical systems, fire protections systems, and elevator systems. The employee is also responsible for assisting with the day-to-day operation of the Preventative Maintenance Program, which includes overseeing the implementation of condition assessments for all facility systems, structures, and equipment.

Duties for this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Develop, review, and approve scopes of work, specifications, change orders, and invoices of maintenance contracts;

  • Assist in the day-to-day operation of the Preventative Maintenance and Warranty Program for all maintenance and service contracts and ensure compliance by the contractor;

  • Attend facility maintenance contract kick-off meetings and partnering meetings in the absence of management;

  • Inspect all work performed by the contractor under the maintenance contracts to ensure quality assurance and compliance with the contract documents;

  • Provide recommendations for future funding priorities and aid in the budgetary needs for service, repair, and replacement of all facilities systems, structures, and equipment in each respective facility;

  • Respond to emergency facility situations, as needed; and

  • Provide monthly reports to management and the facilities regarding the progress of maintenance contracts and assigned tasks.

Employees in this position will report directly to the Senior Facilities Preservation Manager. The current vacancy exists in Baltimore, Maryland at the Francis Scott Key Bridge facility. The eligible list established from this recruitment may be used to fill future vacancies at other facilities throughout the Maryland Transportation Authority.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Five (5) years of experience in administrative staff or professional work. **Two (2) years of experience involving preventative maintenance of building systems or building maintenance program management.

  1. Candidates may substitute thirty (30) credit hours from an accredited college or university for each year up to four years of the required experience.

  3. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Master's degree from an accredited college or university for the required experience.

  4. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience involving staff work related to the administration of rules, regulations, policies, procedures and processes, or overseeing or coordinating unit operations or functioning as a staff assistant to a higher ranking commissioned officer on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

Licenses & Certifications

Employees may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland. Applicants must list the license number and date of expiration on the application.
