Johns Hopkins University Associate Research Scientist (Executive Director of NeuroTech Harbor) in Baltimore, Maryland

Neurotech Harbor (NTH) within the Johns Hopkins Whiting School of Engineering is looking for a highly motivated. proactive, organized, and diplomatic Executive Director (ED). NTH is one of two recipients of an NIH-funded Blueprint Neurotech Incubator award. This program is managed collaboratively with CINTA. The Execuitive Director will primarily be responsible for overall execution of all core functions and operations within NTH.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • The ED will attend all core weekly meetings, weekly PI meetings, monthly quarterly reviews, review panels for each funding cycle, and bimonthly NTH PI meetings.

  • The ED will be a partner to NTH Principal Investigators, consisting of four faculty from JHU and two faculty from Howard University.

  • There will be an expectation for the ED to understand all core functions within the BluePrint program and engage leadership in developing and refining processes and policies.

  • The ED will also conduct analyses as identified by the investigative team and contribute to ongoing analytic deliverables that demonstrate performance of each core function within NTH. This will include support in planning of qualitative and quantitative data collection activities. The ED will need to work closely with NTH's Co-Investigator, and other core members of the NTH team to complete analyses and provide analytic support in a timely manner.

  • The ED will meet with NIH leadership supporting NTH to provide updates and further engage in discussions on processes and policies as needed.

  • The ED will lead the writing of the grant's renewal with the support from NTH leadership.

  • The ED will work with the Director of Strategic Initiatives and NTH leadership on building a NeuroTech ecosystem for both outreach and NTH sustainment. This includes being involved in fund raising efforts.

Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Prior leadership experience is required.

  • Prior experience with NIH as a funding organization is preferred.

  • Excellent communication skills, including timely responsiveness is necessary.

  • Strong organizational skills are necessary.

  • Ability to exercise independent judgment.

  • Demonstrated self-management with the ability to work on multiple tasks with short and/or competing deadlines is necessary.

  • Experience in Microsoft office tools is required.

  • Comfort engaging with a diverse team on projects related to human rights, historically marginalized populations, and sexual and gender diverse communities.

  • Interest and commitment to MedTech research and translation and commercialization of research activities.

  • PhD in Neuroscience, Neuroengineering, Biomedical Engineering, or an MD with Neurology or Neurosurgery specialization

  • Leadership experience in research centers.

  • Experience with proposal grant writing to NIH and/or federal sponsors.

Salary: $175,000 - $225,000

Salary Range

The referenced salary range represents the minimum and maximum salaries for this position and is based on Johns Hopkins University's good faith belief at the time of posting. Not all candidates will be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. The actual compensation offered to the selected candidate may vary and will ultimately depend on multiple factors, which may include the successful candidate's geographic location, skills, work experience, internal equity, market conditions, education/training and other factors, as reasonably determined by the University.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing.
