The University of Maryland School of Social Work has an exciting opportunity for a/full-time, contractual/Community Program Specialist to join the Positive Schools Center.The Community Program Specialist is responsible for producing mutually beneficial relationships resulting in meaningful and sustainable educational, employment, and economic opportunities that serve as a catalyst for university-sponsored community programming. This position plans, organizes, and coordinates resources, networks, and partnerships for groups, individuals, school communities, and families to improve the well-being of Maryland’s residents. Specifically, the Community Program Specialist is responsible for assisting with the local Community School model, connecting Baltimore City Public School students to a customized set of services through collaboration with families, teachers, school staff, and community agencies. The position will be located full-time at one Baltimore City Elementary/Middle/High School and is expected to align all programs, services, and opportunities collaboratively with Baltimore City Public School administration and the Positive Schools Center (PSC). The Center for Restorative Change’s mission is to advance social justice through mutually transformative community-university partnerships. The vision for The Center is that all communities will be equitable and promote well-being, self-determination, individual and collective power. The PSC provides coaching and staff development, community school programming, and policy recommendations for Maryland schools. Through building relationships with school teams, the PSC collaborates with schools to shift perspective and transform the places where people teach, learn, and live. Essential Functions: * Support principal, teachers, and school staff to incorporate academic, extracurricular, and expanded learning programs that adhere to the needs of the school as identified by school leadership. * Collaborate with school leadership to include school partners and community members in school meetings, activities, advisory boards, etc. * Monitor school programs to ensure they fit the needs of all stakeholders. * Apply the community school strategy/model and five foundational pillars of the Positive Schools Center to inform the development of programs. * Cultivate partnerships and resources to provide guidance and support to the school community and community partners regarding issues including mental health, poverty, unemployment, substance abuse, physical abuse, rehabilitation, social adjustment, childcare and/or medical care, as well as the implementation of restorative practices. * Co-lead with the principal the site-based Community School Leadership Team, that may comprise administrators, teachers, support services staff, partners, parents, and others, to identify needs, set priorities, and coordinate strategies. * Work closely with partners to develop and plan trainings, workshops, meetings, and community and recognition events. Coordinate event logistics, scheduling and social media outreach. * Provide recommendations to principal in use of funds, as well as manage activity and program budget work plans in accordance with specifications and funding limitations to shape the program. * Assist principal in evaluating program effectiveness to develop improved methods, analyze results, and recommend/take appropriate action. * Participate in network meetings and trainings as related to the Community School Strategy citywide, as well as initiatives led by the Positive Schools Center. * Performs other related duties as assigned. Education:Master's degree, preferably in Social Work. Preferred Experience: Prior experience social service program coordination, development, oversight or administration, preferably in an urban school setting. Other:Related experience to program may be substituted for education. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: * Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds. * Demonstrates a commitment to justice, diversity, equity, and inclusion. Incorporates anti-racist and anti-oppressive practices and principles to accomplish their work. * Knowledge of best practices in the field as well as relevant federal, state, and local rules, regulations, and programs/policies related to public schools and out of school time programming. * Ability to gather relevant data to synthesize and summarize information in making judgments regarding children and their families. * Ability to use measurable and verifiable information for resolving problems and facilitating decision-making processes. * Excellent organizational and project management skills. Ability to manage situations with tact, diplomacy, understanding, and fairness. * Strong interpersonal skills.
