The University of Maryland, Baltimore School of Medicine Department of Pathology is currently seeking a Lead Laboratory Research Specialist. The mission of the Department of Pathology is to increase the knowledge and understanding of disease process mechanisms. TheLead Laboratory Research Specialistis responsible for all functions in a single or multiple laboratories setting providing guidance and technical expertise to research project(s) and leads laboratory(s) research activities. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: * * Independently leads laboratory research activities by ensuring design, development, documentation and implementation of research procedures and protocols using a variety of complex activities. * Lead the development and execution of project research studies. Revise studies, in consultation with upper management or principal investigator, to meet changing needs and requirements and enforces standards. * Provide day-to-day laboratory operations oversight including monitoring the budget, ensuring quality control and safety compliance, developing policies and procedures, and ordering supplies. Identify and address issues and deficiencies and implements effective solutions. * Compile, analyze, and interpret research data using various relevant computer software applications. Present research findings. * Perform administrative duties such as: training and guiding students and/or other laboratory technicians; develops policies, procedures and/or methods for laboratory experimentation; and ordering supplies. * Assures projects are completed in a timely manner by working the hours necessary to finish all analysis. * Performs other duties as assigned *Education: *Bachelor's or Master’s degree in biology, chemistry or field of study related to the research of the laboratory. *Experience: Five (5) years of experience in laboratory research including three (3) years in the relevant research specialization. Other: May consider a combination of directly related experience and education. May require training related to occupational safety and health, environmental compliance, shipping of hazardous materials and/or ionizing radiation. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: * * Knowledge of laboratory science and testing on instrumentation in hospital or research setting. * Possible specialty skill in laboratory areas that are needed for the research conducted in our lab. * Working knowledge of Excel, Word, Adobe * Ability to maintain discretion and professionalism throughout job duties *WORKING CONDITIONS:Laboratory setting, handling blood and body fluids for testing. Handling of lab chemicals for analysis. Must be able to stand or walk for long periods of time. Must be able to lift at least 30lbs.
