All employees are expected to work primarily physically within the State of Maryland. Primary Duties: * *The Lab Research Technician will perform multiple different types of research techniques. (80%) 1. Performs simple routine analytical lab techniques and procedures and routine biological sample preparation procedures, such as: DNA and RNA isolation and purification, PCR, qRT-PCR, protein lysate isolation and purification, western blotting, cell counting and basic cell culturing. 2. Prepares simple chemical solutions, media, reagents, stains, and buffers for the purposes of carrying out the above procedures. 3. Independently performs and assists other lab members in collecting, preparing, and processing specimens and cell or tissue cultures as required. 4. Independently performs and assists other lab members with sterile procedures. 5. Maintains a current record of all protocols performed to date. Maintains a personal notebook containing a “log” of all details of all procedures performed, all raw data, and all analyzed data. Maintains personal inventories of samples (genomic DNAs, plasmid DNAs, RNAs, and protein lysates), cell lines and frozen samples. 6. Collects and analyzes data for the purposes of creating tables, figures and presenting data to fellow lab members. Lab Research Technician will assist with general laboratory maintenance. (20%) 1. Performs general housekeeping of laboratory, including dishwashing and autoclaving, operation and maintenance of laboratory equipment, and restocking consumables and reagents. 2. Maintains chemicals and equipment inventory. Education:Bachelors degree in a biological or chemical science. Experience: Other: Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: General knowledge of the principles and practices of natural and/or chemical sciences; of the safe and proper handling and disposal of 'specimens, materials, and equipment. Ability to perform laboratory procedures using applicable equipment and techniques; to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; to use computers and related software applications; to lift, transport and deliver materials and stock laboratory supplies and goods; to wear and work in personal protective equipment. OTHER: Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.
