WSP USA Lead Consultant, Water Resources Engineering in Baltimore, Maryland

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Lead Drainage and Stormwater Engineer for our Baltimore, MD office. The successful candidate will lead the delivery of multiple drainage, stormwater, sediment control, and watershed projects. Candidates should have experience with design of stormwater management practices, drainage conveyance systems, resilient infrastructure, flood control, and hydrologic/hydraulic (H&H) studies. This is an excellent leadership position in an internationally recognized global firm in a field designated for rapid growth.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide engineering services and project/task management of drainage, stormwater management, flood control, and H&H modeling design projects. Local and state experience (Maryland, Viginia, District of Columbia) on drainage and stormwater management design projects is preferred.

  • Coordinate water focused design and evaluation tasks for large complex multi-disciplinary projects.

  • Coordinate, review and approve design plans, ensuring data integrity and work is compliant with all applicable codes, ordinances, and regulations.

  • Permitting, public participation, and coordinating/interacting with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and clients in a confident and professional manner.

  • Oversee and monitor cross-functional teams in executing projects including project budgets, tracking hours and expenses, schedule progress, and task completion.

  • Collaborate with professionals from a variety of disciplines to provide future ready solutions for clients.

  • Mentor younger staff in the development of their design skills, including in the latest drainage and stromwater design focused on Maryland and local requirements.

  • Remain current in latest drainage, stormwater, sediment control standards, and water resources engineering techniques.

  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies.

  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Water Resources Engineering or closely related discipline.

  • Professional Engineer license required. Maryland and/or Virginia P.E. licenses preferred.

  • 7 to 10+ years of relevant post-education experience in the engineering and construction industry with a technical client-facing background in the water resources sector.

  • Knowledge of regulatory agencies in Maryland and/or Virginia.

  • Experience in water resources engineering including with hydraulic modeling of open-channel and closed conduit systems using current industry standard software.

  • Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.

  • The ability to manage several projects concurrently, provide senior-level input and evaluation on projects, and serve as technical leader.

  • Proficient knowledge of related engineering principles, practices, process, and the application to permitting and project work-related issues.

  • Well-defined knowledge with Stormwater Management, Drainage, Hydrology & Hydraulics Design, Watershed Studies, Floodplain Delineation, and sediment control.

  • Experience with project and client development/relationship management.

  • Proficient ability to coordinate with agency regulators and understand requirements.

  • Demonstrated high-level of self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.

  • Ability to work independently and provide guidance and leadership to junior team or project members, with strict adherence to QA/QC.

  • Proficient understanding of and well-defined experience with surface water analysis, hydrologic methodologies/models, hydraulic models, and with software tools for project delivery including AutoCAD, MicroStation, Bentley & Autodesk design products, project collaboration software, and Geographical Information System (GIS) software.

  • Well-developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to apply technical knowledge to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, statistical analysis and arriving at the most effective, economical, and logical solution.

  • Demonstrated effectiveness at coordinating and assertively directing subconsultants and others to consistently complete tasks safely and efficiently.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in the above-referenced discipline

  • Affiliations with professional societies and active industry and community involvement are highly desirable

Compensation:

Expected Salary: $130,000- $160,000

WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location.
