Johns Hopkins University Mental Health Services Assessment Clinician in Baltimore, Maryland
Student Health and Well-Being (SHWB) Mental Health Services at Johns Hopkins University seeks an energetic, organized, and motivated Mental Health Services Assessment Clinician to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment focused on delivering innovative mental healthcare and supporting the well-being of a diverse community of learners.
This position is an excellent opportunity for a pre-licensed practitioner who has completed an internship and graduated from an APA-accredited doctoral program in psychology, and who has a strong interest in and experience with testing and assessment. The Assessment Clinician will practice under the supervision of a licensed psychologist while accruing supervised professional experience and will be required to obtain licensure as a psychologist in the jurisdictions noted below.
Reporting to the Associate Director of Assessment, Occupational Therapy, and Neurodiversity Services, the Mental Health Services Assessment Clinician provides psychological testing, executive functioning and time management coaching, and individualized support to students and learners who may benefit from these resources to support their overall success at JHU. This position offers an exciting opportunity to collaborate with key partners in Student Affairs and to be part of a team of professionals who are passionate about taking a holistic approach to supporting the well-being of students.
Mental Health Services is establishing a new assessment service line that will provide equitable access to psychological testing for the purposes of diagnostic clarification, facilitation of treatment for attentional disorders, and disability accommodations. The Mental Health Services Assessment Clinician will assist in the design of psychological testing batteries and will administer psychological testing, clinical interviews, and write assessment reports. As a member of the Training team, the Mental Health Services Assessment Clinician will contribute to the supervision of trainees within the APA-accredited doctoral resident program and provide consultation to MHS clinical staff on matters related to assessment and diagnosis. The Mental Health Services Assessment Clinician will collaborate closely with all members of the MHS interdisciplinary team.
The successful candidate will have experience in multi-culturally informed psychological testing, assessment, and treatment of learning and attentional disorders or other relevant conditions, as well as expertise working with neurodivergent students and learners. In addition to psychological testing and assessment, the Assessment Clinician will provide coaching and clinical services to students and learners focused on the management of attentional and executive functioning difficulties. Specific Duties & Responsibilities
- This position’s direct clinical service responsibilities will be primarily based at the Homewood clinic but may provide virtual or in-person services and supervision at other locations in Maryland or Washington, D.C. See minimum qualifications for required timeframes for licensure. Jurisdictions required: Maryland and Washington, D.C.
Direct Clinical Service (75% )
Creates a warm and welcoming clinical environment where clients feel supported and respected as they pursue their personal, academic, and professional goals.
Conducts diagnostic clinical interviews, utilizes collateral information, and reviews relevant treatment records.
Administers multi-culturally informed psychological testing batteries (including but not limited to tests of intellectual functioning, academic achievement, learning and memory, reasoning and problem-solving, visuospatial skills, language, executive functioning, attention, mood, and personality).
Writes comprehensive assessment reports including diagnosis and treatment recommendations.
Collaborates with and refers to campus partners for support and accommodations based on testing and assessment outcomes.
Provides individualized coaching to address academic difficulties, compensatory strategies, executive functioning skills, and other sequelae of ADHD, learning disabilities, and neurodivergence.
Assists students with creating study plans and test-taking strategies; skills to manage procrastination; time management; organizational skills; and increasing understanding of individual needs.
In collaboration with occupational therapists and other clinicians, develops and executes a range of skills-based group interventions for students who have ADHD and/or learning disabilities.
Collaborates with providers within SHWB as an interdisciplinary treatment team.
Consults, as appropriate, with providers in the community to facilitate continuity of care.
Collaborative and Other Activities (25%)
Remains abreast of current literature and research on psychological testing and assessment.
Participates in outreach and educational activities including resource fairs, community meetings, and training to JHU faculty, staff, and students.
Contribute to the professional development of trainees and SHWB staff through the provision of didactic training and seminars.
Participates in case consultation, student risk management, peer chart reviews, and other departmental committees as directed.
Participates in intern and extern recruitment, selection, training, supervision, and evaluation.
Participates in MHS staff recruitment and hiring processes.
Completes documentation and administrative duties in accordance with MHS policies and procedures.
Other duties as assigned.
Special Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities

Expertise in multi-culturally informed psychological testing, assessment, and treatment of learning and attentional disorders or other relevant conditions, as well as expertise working with neurodivergent students and learners.
Thorough knowledge of commonly used psychological tests and assessment processes, including clinical interviews, diagnosis, treatment plan formulation, and recommendations.
Applicable knowledge of ADA or 504 of the Rehabilitation Act pertaining to student population with disabilities to best consult and work with campus partners from a multi-culturally informed, person-centered perspective.
Sophisticated written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to produce high-quality assessment reports and review recommendations with learners, parents, and other stakeholders as required.
Bilingual proficiency is highly desirable.

This is a 37.5-hour/week position. Flexible schedule to include some evening and/or weekend flexibility to accommodate the availability of students to engage in assessment activities.
One day of remote work is standard; additional remote days may be required or permitted based on operational needs.
This position is designated as a Required Attendance Employee, which is vital to the operation of a workgroup and may be required to work during a university closure in response to operational needs.

Minimum Qualifications
Master's Degree in Counseling, Psychology, or Social Work from an accredited institution.
Minimum of 2 years post-grad clinical experience.
Independently licensed as a mental health provider in primary required jurisdiction(s) noted in job description prior to start date; licensure in additionally required jurisdiction(s) required within 6 months of hire.
Substitution/Equivalency
- Doctoral degree (Ph.D. or Psy.D.) in psychology from an APA-accredited program and completion of an APA internship. If eligibility is based on a doctoral degree (Ph.D. or Psy.D.) in psychology, post-grad experience is not required to meet the minimum qualifications. Recent doctoral graduate hires must obtain licensure as a psychologist in a minimum of one required jurisdiction(s) noted in the job description within 12 months of hire; licensure in additional required jurisdictions required within 2 years of hire.
Preferred Qualifications
Minimum of 2 years of experience administering psychological tests and assessments and report writing.
Experience providing individualized coaching to address academic difficulties, compensatory strategies, executive functioning skills, and other sequelae of ADHD, learning disabilities, and neurodivergence.
Clinical experience in a university setting is strongly preferred.
