OVERVIEW
The Operations Training Manager is responsible for leading/supervising a team of three Operations Trainers in the creation, coordination, deployment, and assessment of technical and operational training across the site to build employee competency and capability. Possessing a broad background in manufacturing operations, the role coaches the Operations Trainers and the production line/area-based trainers to deliver on-the-job training (OJT) to new employees, as well as develops and continually refines training content for production employees. This role spends significant time engaged with our production floor operators/supervisors and departmental trainers to assure standardization of training and identification of improvement opportunities. This role sits within the Continuous Improvement team and is responsible for using Lean Manufacturing tools to drive sustained improvements.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
Manage a team of three Operations Trainers
Coordinate efforts with other Site Leads to ensure standard practices are followed across all sites
Partner with Operational Managers to design and develop and support delivery and evaluation of technical training programs around Packaging, Process, and Maintenance.
Partner with a cross-functional team to develop and maintain standard work (“work instructions”)
Collaborate with cross-functional team to create interactive, accessible training in multiple formats including written SOPs, PowerPoint with photos and annotations, and video with annotations that achieve a consistent delivery of information.
Deliver Train the Trainer training courses and on-going coaching support to operators and job coaches providing OJT to new employees
Maintain skill matrix and recertification timeline
Coordinate with Department leadership to create weekly training schedule by area
Track agreed Training KPIs for the site
Act as a resource for Continuous Improvement projects particularly when standardization in process is required for sustained improvements
Audit, spot check, and rectify compliance gaps on standard work instructions and training material where identified
In partnership with Continuous Improvement and Learning & Development, ensure consistency of application of training across the business and maintain alignment with corporate learning strategy.
Understand and support Operational goals particularly when training gaps are identified
Assist with the implementation of CAPEX projects in relation to timetables of training, familiarization and learning curves. This could require the role to travel to the equipment manufacturer for training and the capture of training materials.
Promote common Lean Manufacturing tools such as 5S and Short Interval Control
Drive Continuous Improvement in all Technical Learning & Development processes
Understand, use, and support end-users of the company’s Learning Management System (SuccessFactors)
WORK EXPERIENCE
5+ years of relevant industry experience required, particularly in a food processing, packaging or maintenance role
At least 4 years in a Learning and Development role strongly preferred
2+ years of Manufacturing Supervisory/Leadership experience required
Working knowledge of common training methods and adult learning theory
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
BA/BS degree preferred
Experience developing operational training in a refining/food manufacturing environment required
SIx Sigma background preferred
Instructional Design experience preferred
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
Relevant industry experience
Understanding of Lean Manufacturing principles
Good understanding of relevant Health & Safety legislation and regulations
Detailed experience or relevant work processes and safe use of equipment
Strong relationship building and excellent written/verbal communication skills
Strong organizational skills with the ability to work on own initiative, to tight deadlines in a demanding environment
Proficient in Microsoft Office, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook

SALARY PAY RANGE: $94,000 - $174,000 plus bonus
The pay rate for the successful candidate will depend on the candidate’s qualifications and prior experience.
