University of Maryland, Baltimore Postdoctoral fellow in Baltimore, Maryland

Description: A postdoctoral position is available in theDepartment of Epidemiology and Public Health atUniversity of Maryland School of Medicine. The ongoing research studies focus on the epidemiologic and genetic variation in cardiometabolic diseases, breast and cervical cancer risk. Our research also includes integration of epidemiologic data, next-generation sequence data, epigenetic and clinical data, using machine learning to identify biomarkers, and developing polygenic risk scores. These studies aim touncover the underlying biology of disease development in large study cohorts and apply that knowledge to improve health care. We are seeking outstanding postdoctoral research fellows with a background in genetic epidemiology, genomics or bioinformatics and an interest in studying cardiometabolic diseases and/or cancer.
The successful candidates will contribute to study design, implementation, project management, data analysis, manuscript development, systematic reviews, and modeling within the University of Maryland School of Medicine, Department of Epidemiology and Public Health. Applicants should be experienced in one or more of these methodologies. Other tasks may include preparing study protocols, oversight of junior researchers, presentations at national and international scientific meetings, and grant writing. There are opportunities to work on other relevant projects as well. The candidate will work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams across several departments and institutes. The research context is an ongoing effort to generate polygenic risk scores for cardiometabolic disorders and cancers, and to develop a genomics classifier for HPV-based cervical cancer screening programs. The position is available for immediate occupancy contingent on background experience, performance, and annual renewal is based on satisfactory performance. Individuals who are interested shouldapply using the University of Maryland on-line system and provide adetailed CV, a brief statement of research experience, interests and skills, and the names of three references. Minimum qualifications: * doctoral degree in genetic epidemiology, genomics, bioinformatics, or related field, with publications in peer-reviewed journals. * proficient in genetic epidemiology demonstrated ability to interpret genetic associations of common diseases and design and carry out experimental procedures to investigate underlying molecular mechanisms. * strong quantitative background, ideally with SAS, R, and genomics analyses programming skills * familiarity with common bioinformatics databases, resources, and tools to generate and follow up testable genetic hypotheses. * team working skills to address scientific questions; excellent communication skills for working with multidisciplinary teams and international colleagues.
