Maryland Transportation Authority Senior Stormwater Engineer (Transportation Design Engineer V) in Baltimore, Maryland

Nature of Work: The Senior Stormwater Engineer is responsible for leading MDTAs stormwater remediation program that involves managing/coordinating projects and programs related to drainage systems, stormwater management, water quality devices, erosion and sediment controls, stormwater permitting, natural resources permitting, natural resources mitigation, and other environmental practices.

Duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Maintain stormwater assets for compliance with state and federal standards and by overseeing agency-wide inventory, inspection, and remediation of drainage systems and stormwater Best Management Practices (BMPs);
  • Lead the planning and design of remedial actions related to drainage systems, culverts, stormwater BMPs and their components, etc.;
  • Study the feasibility and economic constraints of various remedial options, considering the type, size, location, aesthetics, and safety of the proposed actions. This also involves performing the necessary design calculations and sketching the layout of the remedial activities;
  • Support the Stormwater Compliance Program related to stormwater requirements for National Pollution Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permits and other state or local permits;
  • Communicating with staff, managers, consultants, other divisions within the agency, the Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT), regulatory agencies, and the public;
  • Support the various aspects associated with projects, such as: developing scope of project, task initiation, and consultant oversight which includes managing a staff of professional engineers for different disciplines of engineering design;
  • Support the review of drainage, stormwater management (SWM), and Erosion and Sediment Control (ESC) designs and permits related to remedial and development projects;
  • Oversee training and work performance for employees and consultants managing stormwater engineering projects, including licensed professional engineers; and
  • Assist in rating of consultant Expressions of Interest (EOI) and technical proposals to obtain expertise and staffing to execute stormwater projects and maintenance of the Maryland Transportation Authoritys stormwater assets.

The employee in this position will report directly to the

Environmental Discipline Manager.
