How You Will Make a Difference at Northrop Grumman:

As the lead developer of RF sensors for some of the most advanced systems in the U.S. arsenal, Northrop Grumman is a world leader in advanced sensor systems and design. These include radars for air dominance platforms (such as the F-22, F-35 Joint Strike Fighter, F-16), bomber and strike programs (such as B-1B), airborne / maritime / ground-based surveillance missions (E-3 AWACS, E-7 MESA, TPS-80 G/ATOR and UAV systems such as Global Hawk), as well as restricted programs and missions. Northrop Grumman’s Airborne Multifunction Systems (AMS) Systems Engineering, Integration and Test (SEIT) organization has a need for an Electronic Warfare (EW) Systems Engineer supporting the architecture, design, implementation, integration, and verification of some of our most advanced multi-function RF sensors and remote sensing applications. Daily activities may consist of requirements development, trade studies, algorithm design, MATLAB simulations, waveform design, signal processing, performance analysis, and flight testing.

Successful candidates will have the opportunity to work on a highly visible and valued mode of operation on some of the most prized platforms in the U.S. arsenal alongside a team of highly qualified EW systems engineers. This position requires up to 100% on-site work in the Linthicum/Baltimore, Maryland campus and the ability to pass an enhanced security review.

Roles and Responsibilities

Northrop Grumman Maritime/Land Systems and Sensors is looking for a Staff Systems Engineer to function as a team Product Owner for the SEWIP Block 3 Electronic Warfare program. Team Product Owners are expected to:

  • Decompose system capabilities into accomplishable tasks to meet program milestones. Support any efforts to provide a Rough Order of Magnitude assessment of the size of effort needed to finish a capability.

  • Maintain a backlog of tasks in Jira and set team priorities in a manner consistent with the program Tier 1 development schedule.

  • Define clear Acceptance Criteria for tasks and articulate clear expectations to the team. Provide technical guidance to the team including technical mentorship.

  • Effectively communicate status, risks and blockers to program management and the customer.

  • Coordinate with other teams to resolve interdependencies.

The Product Owners are expected to be technical leaders who understand the technical scope of what their team must accomplish to be successful and are expected to make direct contributions to deliverable work products including developing test plans and troubleshooting system defects.

*This position is contingent upon the ability to obtain/maintain DoD Secret Clearance and Special Program Access (SAP) prior to starting and contract award.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, Mathematics or Mechanical Engineering with 10 years of related experience; 8 years of related experience with a Master's Degree; or 6 years of related experience with a Ph.D. Will consider additional 4 years of applied experience in lieu of degree requirement.

  • Prior professional experience either in Electronic Warfare

  • Prior professional experience as a leader of a team.

  • Demonstrated capability to decompose system-level capabilities into functional components and guide architectural decisions.

  • Demonstrated capability to create capability development plans and advocate for them internally and with the customer.

  • Demonstrated capability to define acceptance criteria including capability selloff test plans.

  • Demonstrated capability to effectively communicate and present complex technical concepts to project, program, and company management, other technical managers, and customers.

  • Demonstrated capability to communicate complex technical solutions at a higher level of abstraction and to an audience unfamiliar with the problem set.

  • Work without appreciable direction, exercising considerable latitude in determining the technical objectives of assignments and determine courses of action necessary to obtain desired results

  • Knowledge of system engineering principles and best practices.

  • Proficient with Matlab and/or C++.

  • The ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance is required prior to starting.

  • Ability to obtain approval for Special Access Programs prior to starting.

  • US Citizenship required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced understanding of the Electronic Support and Electronic Attack domains.

  • Prior professional Integration and Test experience. Proficient with basic RF test equipment such as signal generators and spectrum analyzers.

  • Prior experience and proficiency in troubleshooting system defects. Excellent problem-solving capabilities.

  • Familiar with Agile development principles.

  • Experienced with embedded software systems.

  • Comfortable with business travel up to 25% of the time.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. Salary Range: $157,500 - $236,300

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results.
