Job Overview

TE Connectivity’s R&D/Product Development Engineering Teams conceive original ideas for new products, introduce them into practice. They are responsible for product development, and qualification from market definition through production and release; assist in the qualification of suppliers for new products to ensure suppliers deliver quality parts, materials, and services for new or improved manufacturing processes; conduct feasibility studies, testing on new and modified designs; direct and support detailed design, testing, prototype fabrication and manufacturing ramp. The R&D/Product Development Engineering Teams provide all required product documentation including, but not limited to, Solid Model, 2D/3D production drawings, product specifications, and testing requirements. They create and modify detailed drawings and drafting or conceptual models from layouts, rough sketches or notes and contribute to design modifications to facilitate manufacturing operation or quality of product. Typical fields of expertise include: materials, mechanics and systems, electrical, optics, chemistry, software, automation systems, packaging, testing and measurement, and manufacturing of electrical, mechanical and electronic components, products, and their integration into systems.

Role Description

TE Connectivity is setting up a new state of the art world class at Bangalore, India to support Aerospace, Defense and Marine (ADM) business unit. As part of the team, incumbent Manager will be responsible to lead and manage operations and a team of engineers and technicians associated with testing Electrical, Electronic and Electromechanical products that TE offers under ADM Business Unit.

As a member of our Aerospace, Defense, and Marine (AD&M) Test Lab the Test Engineer will review assigned test programs and recommend testing strategies to ensure TE products meet customer performance and reliability needs, perform electrical and mechanical testing on TE products, and write detailed test procedures and reports to support the test lab and its customers, following good engineering practices and ensuring the integrity of the business is maintained by following all applicable policies and procedures. The position will report to the Manager, Test Engineering, for the Aerospace, Defense and Marine business unit.

Responsibilities

• The Test Engineer will review assigned test requests and recommend testing strategies to ensure TE products meet customer performance and reliability needs while maximizing laboratory resource efficiencies.

• Understand test request and establish work requirements including instrumentation, test sequence, test programming and fixture requirements as needed.

• Perform electrical and mechanical testing on TE products per test procedures.

• Write detailed test procedures and test reports as needed to support the test lab and its customers in performing testing.

• Recommend testing protocols to address specific customer needs

• Collaborate with other lab engineers on interdisciplinary teams to plan and conduct complex test programs.

• Collaborate with other lab engineers on interdisciplinary teams to design and prepare test systems for unusual tests.

• Assist in identification of new or replacement test equipment for purchase.

• Work with test system engineers to determine strategies to meet present and future test requirements.

• Negotiate test plans with internal and external customers.

• Review active test programs and final test results to ensure that performance and reliability requirements are met.

• Maintain the integrity of test results by complying with corporate, business unit and local quality system requirements.

• May oversee the work of test technicians.

• Coordinates and follows up on testing performed by test technicians.

• Ensure all safety requirements are met.

• Ensure good engineering practices are followed.

• Perform estimates of labor and materials required for testing, including project test scheduling.

• Capable of working to drawings, diagrams, and schematics.

• Must be capable of multitasking and taking full ownership of assigned projects.

• Participate and/or lead employee continuous improvement teams as needed.

• Perform other duties as assigned by management.

• This position requires access to information which is subject to stringent controls.

Skill set and Profile

• Hands on demonstrated experience to select sensors, technically evaluate,designand operate instrumentation setup, test programming in tools like National Instruments LabView etc.

• Experience inelectrical&mechanicaldesignconsideration forelectricaland electromechanical product development in aerospace / defense / marine domain.

• Hands on experience to document and deploy quality management systems i.e. AS9100D etc.

• Experience in understanding top level functional requirement of a product and designing the components/subsystems to test for Product Performance criteria.

• Hands on experience for tearing apart assemblies / sub-assemblies of electromechanical parts

• Capable of Handling Multiple Projects simultaneously.

• Good Conceptual, problem solving and Analytical Skills.

• Should be Self-Motivated, Adaptive, Passionate about results and a Good Team Player

• Strong Interpersonal & stake holder management skill

• Strong Technical Aptitude with Willingness to explore & learn new Technologies for test instrumentation.

• Demonstrated Experience of working in a fast paced and changing environment with tight deadlines

• Knowledge of six sigma tools will be an added advantage.

• Knowledge of Global Certifications and Regulatory Standards (UL, IEC, MIL etc.) is an advantage

• Willingness to Travel for project requirements as required

Qualification and Experience

  • B.E./B.Tech. in Electrical/ Electronics / Instrumentation Engineering

  • 12+ years of hands experience in Test Instrumentation in test labs.

  • Aerospace Lab experience is an added advantage.

  • Experience with ProductTestingin line to MIL specifications is desired.
