Summary:
The Nursing School New Graduate has graduated from an accredited school and is eligible to sit for the Maine NCLEX exam. The Graduate Orientee is not expected to have a skill set beyond what is learned in the clinical and classroom setting. The Nursing School New Graduate is engaged in an intensive orientation that involves learning Psychiatric Nurse specific skills. Authorization to Test has been provided prior to hire and test date is within 90 days of hire.
Responsibilities:
Performs accurate and timely age specific patient assessment(s) under the supervision of a registered nurse
Observes the nursing component of discharge plan with assigned registered nurse preceptor.
Collaborates with registered nurse preceptor and other disciplines based on assessment.
Documents all aspects of the assessment process within the defined policy standards under the supervision of a registered nurse.
Assess(s) pain and develops appropriate intervention and documents under the supervision of a registered nurse.
Develops individualized plans of care under the supervision of a registered nurse that takes into consideration patient'schronological age and stage of development.
Provides patients with timely and complete care under the supervision of a registered nurse. In accordance with diagnosis, and other factors influencing care needs, that take into consideration patient'schronological age and stage of development.
Recognizes the need for and impact of precise and timely documentation of patient care and ensures that documentation is reviewed and signed by a registered nurse.
Recognizes the need to and collaborates with registered nurse and other disciplines to effectively manage pain.
Recognizes, adapts and manages changes in milieu acuity. Provides education formally or informally when necessary under the supervision of a registered nurse.
Recognizes the need to develop and implement an education plan for all patients based on a needs assessment. Educational plans are comprehensive and take into consideration the patient'schronological age and stage of development.
Recognizes the need for and participates in the development of patient education materials under the supervision of a registered nurse.
Documents education provided according to policy under the supervision of a registered nurse
Recognizes safety hazards and responds appropriately. Assists with maintaining a safe and clean environment.
Recognizes emergency situations and responds appropriately within scope of practice (fire, code, etc.).
Assist in maintaining a work environment free from recognized hazards that create a risk of injury to employees, patients or visitors and that all accidents and incidents are reported by employees and properly investigated. When appropriate, assist with the return of all workers with work related injuries and illnesses to gainful employment.
Recognizes the need for change and assists with facilitating change within the hospital.

Delegates appropriate tasks to ancillary personnel under the supervision of a registered nurse.

Attends at least 50% of staff meetings.
Recognizes learning needs of new staff and students and intervenes appropriately.
