Amazon's Global Procurement Organization is seeking an experienced Sr. Technical Program Manager to define and execute software programs that drive digitalization of Amazon's complex end to end Indirect Supply Chain. This role will be responsible for orchestrating communication, leading stakeholders and engineering teams through requirements discovery, project inception, planning, scheduling, removing roadblocks, executing and delivering projects, working directly with engineering to deliver on org KPI and roadmap objectives, and matching the needs of customers and stakeholders with the solutions and resources needed to deliver business value.

Given the breadth of the technology solutions we develop and integrate, this role will require coordination across internal and external Amazon teams as well as third party vendors. You’ll work with customers, partners, and business stakeholders to align prioritized features with engineering solutions that deliver the most value and customer satisfaction. You will partner with Product Management and Engineering to define new capabilities and solutions through expertly crafted narratives, business requirements and technology specifications, while driving clarity for business partners and engineers alike.

Successful applicants will have experience developing functional and non-functional requirements, developing technical specifications, facilitating business and technical meetings, partnering with resources outside of the team to get things done, scheduling and pivoting project plans, communicating status, resolving risks, removing barriers, leading cross-functional teams, and communicating to a large number of stakeholders.

You will also need to learn about capabilities from various internal teams and be able to communicate effectively to all levels within the company, both in writing and in meetings. The ideal candidate will have technical expertise, including an understanding of systems design using AWS cloud components, able to actively participate in review discussions about engineering architecture and design, able to independently resolve integration challenges with external teams, and review UML, ERD, AWS Cloud Design and related technical diagrams and documents. The candidate will have experience managing complex programs and interrelated projects across multiple engineering and stakeholder groups. The successful candidate will thrive in a fast paced environment, deals well with ambiguity, develops and builds clarity, and is willing to roll up their sleeves to dig into any project or problem. The candidate will have high standards for themselves and everyone they work with, and will be constantly looking around corners to prevent short sighted designs and decisions. We are looking for a proven ability to work closely with customers, end users and the engineering team; someone who is excited to take on new, ambiguous projects that rely on the candidate's ability to generate clarity, solutions and a path to successful outcomes.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support various business groups within the Global Procurement Organization's Technology Team, converting requests into well-formed projects, features and deliverables to support multinational operations.

  • Orchestrate the creation of automated systems and metrics to support the organization in meeting its strategic business objectives through technology enablement.

  • Apply a structured change management approach and program management methodology to effectively meet customer needs.

  • Operate as a single-threaded-leader of the projects within the TPM's portfolio, taking responsibility for creatively delivering results through partnerships, engineering and process improvements.

KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS:

  • Earn the trust of key stakeholders both inside and outside of the department

  • Manage intake requests for features and projects, responding to requestors within the SLA

  • Become a SME in the user systems and processes within assigned programs.

  • Champion standards and process improvements

  • Create and manage measurements that track adoption, and utilization of systems and features, using KPI's to measure and drive successful goal completion

  • Speak the language of business; speak the language of engineering; think the language of program management

  • Write clear and high quality documents that raise the bar for Amazonian Doc Writing, demonstrating collaborative leadership, championing stakeholder alignment and bias for action.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENT: 20-40%

Key job responsibilities

  • Customer Intake review - business problems, reports, KPI's, applications, features, etc.

  • Solutions Assessment - match customer needs with multiple possible solutions that may include non-tech processes, buying & integrating software, leveraging existing Amazon platforms or building new systems.

  • Reviewing business requirements and decomposing them into work-breakdown-structure, including Epics, User Stories, System Stories and how to organize them into a project schedule.

  • Orchestrating between customers, Product Managers, other Program Managers and Software Development Managers to translate business requirements into resource-committed project schedules and delivery plans.

  • Writing documents to propose solutions, solicit feedback, align stakeholders, drive decisions and foster both change and acceleration of delivered customer value.

  • Identifying and/or developing both business and systems metrics to drive transparency and measurable positive change.

  • Looking for gaps in requirements to ensure that projects have a maximum chance of being adopted by users and of delivering intended business value.

  • Appropriately challenging or pushing back on customers, engineers, product managers, and peers when noticing that the status-quo is insufficient or that desired goals will not be met.

Basic Qualifications

  • Experience in technical product or program management

  • Experience working directly with engineering teams

  • Experience in software development

  • Experience in technical program management working directly with software engineering teams

  • Experience managing programs across cross functional teams, building processes and coordinating release schedules

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in project management disciplines including scope, schedule, budget, quality, along with risk and critical path management

  • Experience managing projects across cross functional teams, building sustainable processes and coordinating release schedules

  • Experience defining KPI's/SLA's used to drive multi-million dollar businesses and reporting to senior leadership
