Phillips 66 Process Control Systems Engineer in Bartlesville, Oklahoma

The Process Control Systems Engineer will be responsible for the safe, efficient, and reliable design, configuration, and maintenance of process control systems at the Phillips 66 Research Center. The primary focus of this position is on Honeywell Experion Distributed Control Systems (DCS), and OPTO Industrial Control Systems, custom control applications, and associated IT network administration and security.

Responsibilities May Include:

  • Provide process control system engineering services to troubleshoot, analyze, and provide direction to safely resolve control system problems.

  • Provide expertise and support to Controls Modernization and Automation Projects involving process control system specification, hardware and software design, testing, graphics, commissioning, start-up and documentation.

  • Apply specialized knowledge to implement appropriate changes to ensure the safety, reliability, and cost effectiveness of control system technology used to meet research requirements.

  • Identify and correct safety hazards or system flaws that contribute to downtime or inefficient operations.

  • Work with internal and external stakeholders to identify automation system requirements to design and implement the systems that meet those needs, including maintaining awareness of system upgrade requirements.

  • Direct contract labor used to construct or enhance automation systems.

  • Review specifications, estimates, and approval documents for control system projects to guide projects through the funding, design, configuration, and installation processes.

  • Communicate and work with various operational, maintenance, and engineering levels in a team environment while being self-motivated to accomplish individual goals.

  • Provide expert assistance to support field technicians' maintenance activities, including nights, weekends, or holidays when required.

  • Interface with Information Technology subject matter experts to ensure strong network security.

  • Responsible for adopting and sharing process control “best practices” through internal and external networking.

  • Lead the organization through internal control network audits including preparation, engagement with auditors, and addressing action items/identified gaps to successful resolution.

Required Qualifications:

  • Legally authorized to work in the job posting country

  • Associate's degree or higher in an applicable technical field

  • Familiarity with IT network administration

  • Relevant knowledge of instrumentation and/or process/industrial control system configuration, programming, maintenance, and security

  • Ability to read and understand process flow diagrams, Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID’s), loops sheets, interlock matrices, and instrumentation and electrical drawings

  • Proficient in MS Office Products (i.e., Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams, Visio, etc.)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology

  • Practical knowledge and experience in application of company, industry standards, and regulations

  • Knowledge and experience in the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of Distributed Control Systems (DCS), DCS applications and DCS equipment in a refinery or petrochemical facility

  • Demonstrated ability to program, configure and integrate automation technology such as field sensors, Allen-Bradley Programmable Logic Controllers, data communications, human-machine interface design, and other electrical machines, including wireless applications

  • Able to design and execute programming, as well as troubleshoot and repair interlock logic, PID loops, control logic, and control ramps (temperature, pressure, flow etc.)

  • Able to design, configure, troubleshoot, and correct DCS graphics

  • Experience with DCS alarm management and priorities

  • Knowledge of process equipment such as compressors, motors, pumps and flow, level, pressure, and temperature controllers/indicators

  • Experience working on and maintaining the local control network security within the overall corporate network

  • Ability to champion change through individual efforts or team membership
