Purpose/Introduction
Chevron Phillips Chemical Company LP (CPChem) is currently seeking a Research Chemist to join the Polymer Characterization Group within the Research & Technology (R&T) organization in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. The Polymer Characterization Group engages in analytical testing and research relating to polymer rheology, size exclusion chromatography, and characterizing polymer architecture and establishing structure/property relationships. This position will be in an area that provides expert analysis relating to analytical testing techniques and analysis for Polymer Rheology and Size Exclusion Chromatography. The position will support other site research groups, manufacturing plants, the technical service group, and product and application development. #HPCP
Responsibilities
Maintaining a laboratory in compliance with all safety, environmental and health regulations, and procedures.
Implementing and developing new instruments and methods to characterize polymer architecture.
Performing data analysis and communicating results and conclusions to internal customers to solve problems.
Performing research to advance the ability to characterize polymer architecture and establish structure property relationships.
Designing experimental protocols and statistical DOEs to efficiently solve problems.
Leading/Contributing to small-scale technical projects.
Participating in scale up of processes including technology transfers to pilot and/or commercial units.
Communicating and documenting research through internal/external reports, memos, publications and presentations.
Maintaining analytical instrumentation.
Performing experiments on analytical instruments relating to size exclusion chromatography and rheology
Required Qualifications
A bachelor’s degree in chemistry or Materials Science/Polymer Science with at least 10 years of experience working in labs OR a master’s degree or Ph.D. in Chemistry/Materials Science/Polymer Science with at least 3 years of experience working in labs.
Must have clearly demonstrated the ability to develop and lead independent research projects.
Digital skills to lead technology modernization efforts.
Strong written and oral communication skills.
Able to work through plant and customers’ problems in a timely fashion.
Agile mindset to juggle customer needs and priorities nimbly.
Preferred Qualifications
A Ph.D. in Polymer Science with at least 5 years of experience performing research involving polymer rheology and size exclusion chromatography.
Previously published research on polymer structure/property relationships.
