Job Description
Are you ready to join a team of talented engineers and shape the future of water infrastructure?
We are looking for a Principal Civil Engineer to join our growing UKI Water team. You will be a senior technical resource that will guide our junior staff and aim to proactively develop our offering to local authorities, water companies, private and public sector clients. Our work ranges from feasibility studies right through to detailed design and construction management; we also carry out research projects, contributing to national policy and guidance.
Role Responsibilities:
Deliver low-carbon solutions that support clients’ net-zero and biodiversity goals, positively impacting nature and communities.
Lead water engineering design projects, including SUDS schemes, river restoration, canal engineering, dams, and flood alleviation schemes.
Contribute to large, multidisciplinary projects such as transportation upgrades, major developments, and renewable energy initiatives.
Lead and contribute to tenders for both one-off projects and large framework contracts.
Mentor and support the professional development of team members.
Build strong relationships with clients and across technical disciplines.
Lead flood risk appraisals and business cases for public and private sector clients.
Stay informed on legislative and guideline updates affecting our services.
Utilize AECOM’s project management systems to deliver high-quality outputs on time and within budget.
Collaborate with clients and technical teams to deliver a range of flood risk management projects (fluvial, coastal, surface water, and drainage).
Being part of the team:
We are a growing team serving a diverse range of clients, providing ample opportunities for you to explore. Our UK clients include local governments, water companies, and private developers. Additionally, we manage large contracts for Middle Eastern clients, offering the chance to work on some of the world’s most ambitious projects. With around 670 staff across our Water UKI business, you’ll collaborate with teams nationwide.
Our close-knit team consists of engineers, technicians, hydrologists, hydraulic modellers, and project managers. Whether working in the office or remotely, we meet weekly to share updates and plan projects. We prioritize your development, offering opportunities such as client secondments, site-based assignments, and training to help you grow.
By joining us, you’ll have the opportunity to shape your career, whether through expanding our international presence, driving technological innovation, or mentoring others. We’ll ensure you have the support and responsibilities needed to thrive.
Qualifications
Here’s what we will need from you;
Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering.
Evidence of significant experience in water engineering design such as river restoration, SuDS, fish passes, reservoirs, culverts, walls and weirs to appropriate codes and standards.
Experience working on projects at appraisal, outline design, detailed design and constructions stages.
Experience and understanding of AutoCAD, Microsoft Office programs and other relevant software packages.
Experience with civil engineering specifications (such as SHW and CESWI) and contracts (such as NEC).
Obtained or near to obtaining professional qualification with professional institution.
