The Senior Non Secure Detention Counselor acts as the lead counselor resource in supervising the daily activities of youth and providing youth with a safe, structured, therapeutic environment.

Job Responsibilities

  • Under direction of a supervision of leadership, is responsible for implementing the shift work plan by assigning shift work and monitoring attendance/coordinating coverage as needed.

  • Serves as role model/lead counselor by orienting and training new staff; ensuring on call and incident reporting documentation are completed.

  • Assists with leading group sessions for youth. Lead group sessions as directed.

  • Account for welfare and well-being of youth at all times. Model appropriate behavior standards for youths. Must maintain visual sight of youth in program.

  • Counsel youth on individual and group basis to assist with adjustment/transition to program. Ensure youth follow and participate in program schedules. Communicate any concerns with youth are brought to the attention of program leadership.

  • Assist with daily meal preparation.

  • Assist with security and safety of youth and facility.

    Job Requirements

  • Minimum of High School/GED required, Associates degree in related field preferred.

  • Minimum 1 – 3 years of experience working with at risk youth in detention/residential facility preferred.

  • TCI, First Aid/CPR certifications required.

  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule with variable hours including day, evening, weekend, holiday and subject to call hours.

  • Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle. Travel is required. Ability to coordinate and plan travel for visits and appointments in efficient manner.

  • Ability to work with economically and culturally diverse population.

  • Skills: Verbal and written communication skills.

    Pay Range

  • $21.00 per hour to $21.72 per hour.
