The Division of Administration/Office of State Buildings has a vacancy. This job title has an assigned pay grade of WS-213.

This vacancy will be filled by new hire or by promotion of a current permanent status classified employee.

Minimum Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Three years of experience in the carpentry trade.

SUBSTITUTIONS:

Training in the carpentry trade will substitute for a maximum of two years of the required experience on a month for month basis.

Job Concepts

Function of Work:

To perform complex and detailed carpentry work related to buildings, structures, furniture, cabinets and other wooden items that require a high degree of precision and/or perform leadworker duties for a crew of less than three subordinates.

Level of Work:

Advanced.

Supervision Received:

Broad review from a Carpenter Foreman or other higher level maintenance personnel.

Supervision Exercised:

May serve as leadworker over assigned craftsmen as the need occurs.

Location of Work:

May be used by all state agencies.

Job Distinctions:

Differs from Carpenter by responsibility for overseeing the work of subordinate craftsmen and performing the most complex carpentry duties.

Differs from Carpenter Foreman by lack of direct supervisory responsibility over assigned trades personnel.

Examples of Work

Repairs all types of furniture and wooden items.

Builds high quality bookcases, tables, lockers, cabinets, museum cases and fixtures.

Sands, finishes, refinishes, varnishes and stains furniture and other finished articles of wood.

Measures and precisely cuts a variety of artificial mate rails such as plastic, particle-board, formica, etc.

Canes and upholsters furniture.

Makes knives to produce special moldings and operates a planer, shaper, jointer, work lathe, drill press, mortising, boring, tenoning machines, jig saws, rip saws and cut-off saws.

Installs and fits fine trim work around lights, electrical fixtures, doors, windows and other outlets.

Estimates time and material for carpentry projects.

Inspects and approves work of contractual employee's.

Lays out, surveys and constructs all manner of detailed carpentry projects from shop drawings or blueprints.

Installs and repairs locks.

Finishes high grade carpentry projects.

Mortises doors and other construction related detailed work.

Lays out and installs floor tile including resilient tile.

Estimates supplies needed for completion of specified projects.

Provides guidance for subordinate Carpenters and trades personnel as needed.

Keeps records as required by supervisory personnel.

Oversees apprentice training.

Performs other duties as needed to insure the smooth flow of work within the job unit.
