Minimum Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

A baccalaureate degree with twenty-four semester hours in any one or a combination of the following: biological, environmental, or chemical science, plus three years of professional level experience in a biological laboratory, chemical laboratory or environmental laboratory.

SUBSTITUTIONS:

A master's degree in a biological, environmental, or chemical science will substitute for one year of the required experience.

A doctorate degree in a biological, environmental, or chemical science will substitute for two years of the required experience.

NOTE:

Advanced degrees will substitute for a maximum of two years of the required experience.

Any college hours or degree must be from an accredited college or university..

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

SECURITY REQUIREMENTS:

Applicants must be able to pass a criminal background check and/or security clearance, including but not limited to those required for the Federal Select Agent Program and the Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners license requirements.

FOR POSITIONS DEALING WITH CLINICAL TESTING:

For positions which involve processing and analysis of human specimens and/or the generation or interpretation of laboratory results that may be used in the diagnosis or treatment of a disease or condition in humans, the incumbent must have at the time of appointment a current valid license to practice as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist Generalist (CLS-G) or a Clinical Laboratory Scientist Specialist (CLS-S) issued by the Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners (LSBME).

A Temporary License to practice as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist-Generalist or a Clinical Laboratory Scientist-Specialist issued by the LSBME shall fulfill this requirement only for the limited time period granted by the LSBME. The incumbent is required to satisfy the requirements for a CLS-G or CLS-S permanent license prior to the expiration of the temporary license.

Differs from a Public Health Laboratory Scientist 3 by the responsibility for direct supervision of subordinate staff.

Differs from the Public Health Laboratory Scientist Manager by the absence of responsibility for serving as a manager of a major section of the Central Laboratory or of a Regional Laboratory.

Differs from the Public Health Laboratory Scientist Technical Master by the absence of responsibility for functions related to research, certification, quality assurance, education, emerging technologies ,or other specialties.

PUBLIC HEALTH LABORATORY SCIENTIST SUPERVISOR

Infectious Disease and Emerging Pathogens (IDEP)

The Louisiana Office of Public Health Laboratory has an opening for a Clinical Laboratory Scientist Supervisor. This position will provide administration, employee supervision, technical/regulatory oversight, consultation and training for laboratory scientists in the Infectious Disease and Emerging Pathogens (IDEP) department of the OPH Laboratory in Baton Rouge. Duties include coordination of sample transport, writing/revising standard operating procedures , competency assessment, proficiency test review, monitoring maintenance of equipment and inventory management. In addition, this position will assign, review and approve the work/training of lower-level scientists and technicians assigned to the IDEP department.
