Position: Operations Maintenance Coordinator

Location: Battle Creek, MI

The Opportunity:

As Operations Maintenance Coordinator (OMC), you will be responsible for ensuring the continuity of operating assets, achieving department objectives for equipment reliability and maintenance budgets, and facilitating sound business decisions regarding the requirements for equipment maintenance versus productivity goals. You will provide support to the Department Superintendent, Department Assistant Superintendent, Production Supervisors, Maintenance Superintendent, Maintenance Manager, and the Maintenance Planners for the coordination required to maintain and ensure operating reliability. Overall, you will serve as the liaison between maintenance and production to effectively communicate and schedule planned maintenance work orders.

How you will impact Smurfit WestRock:

  • Screen and approve all work orders in the CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) for asset area to ensure job priority and efficient utilization of maintenance resources

  • Create and monitor maintenance schedules to ensure there is no conflict with operation or production schedules

  • Prioritize non-emergency and break-in work order requests to approve and reject, review complete work orders, and produce schedule for the next day/week

  • Assist capital team with schedule for any installation and startup of new equipment to minimize the disruption of normal operations

  • Serve as critical member to the Operations Department team representing the interest of the group in all work activities both internal and external to the mill

  • Partner with Maintenance Superintendent to review work requests to determine feasibility and safety controls for work to be performed

  • Facilitate daily meetings with Maintenance Planners and Maintenance and Operations Managers, reviewing upcoming work requests, and weekly scheduling.

  • Responsible for outage planning, outage budget integrity, Gantt charts (maintaining and developing for each outage), and coordination between operations and maintenance for outages.

  • Provide technical support and problem-solving techniques to Operations and Maintenance

  • Support and foster safety and environmental compliance

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

    What you need to succeed:

  • High School diploma, G.E.D.

  • Bachelor\u2019s degree preferred

  • 5-10 years of experience in Pulp and Paper industry in both maintenance and operations

  • Possess computer skills utilizing Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)

  • Ability to utilize a Computerized Maintenance Management System software (CMMS)

  • Demonstrated technical and mechanical acumen

  • Adept at problem-solving and identifying root cause to implement preventative methods

  • Working knowledge of paper mill equipment, processes, and language used to describe such in this industry

  • Ability to work within a 24/7 mill operations facility

  • Be a strategic thinker with the confidence to make decisions which impact safety, operations, and productivity

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to handle multiple competing priorities

  • Strong communication skills with ability to adjust communication style and interact across all levels of the organization
