The City of Bay Minette is seeking applicants for
Firefighter(Alabama Firefighter I/II certification is preferred) to perform technical and specialized work functions associated with driving and operating fire apparatus, preparing for and responding to fire, rescue, EMS, and disaster emergency calls, protecting life and property, and supporting fire safety, prevention, and equipment maintenance activities. An incumbent in this position ensures compliance with all city and state fire codes, laws, and ordinances in order to protect life and property and complies with all rules, orders, and instructions issued by superior officer.
A Firefighter in this position is required to be on a twenty-four-hour call and/or work rotating twenty-four-hour shifts, including weekends and holidays.
Rate of Pay:
- The current salary range for certified Firefighteris $44,233.80 - $68,348.80 per year.
- The current salary range for non-certified Firefighteris $42,859.48 - $66,967.93 per year.
- Hiring salary is the minimum rate of pay, but may be higher based on qualifications.
Minimum Qualification Requirements:
- High school diploma or successful completion of a GED required.
- Must be at least 18 years of age at time of employment.
- Certification as a Firefighter I/II by the Alabama Fire College and Personnel Standards Commission is highly preferred.
- If not certified as a Firefighter I/II by the Alabama Fire College and Personnel Standards Commission, applicants must have completed the CPAT (Candidate Physical Ability Test) within the past 12 months (see additional CPAT information below).
- Must hold a current State of Alabama EMT Certification or obtain such certification within one year of employment with the City of Bay Minette as a Firefighter.
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver license from state of residence without record of suspension or revocation in any state.
- Must be able to meet Fire Department and State of Alabama physical standards.
- Must have no felony convictions or disqualifying criminal history.
- Must not have been found guilty of a crime of moral turpitude or have engaged in immoral conduct which indicates an unfitness to discharge the duties of a Firefighter.
- Must be able to read, write, and communicate the English language.
Note: This job classification is considered to be safety sensitive and is subject to pre-employment and random drug screens.

Non-certified applicants for Firefighter
musthave completed the Candidate Physical Agility Test (CPAT) within the past 12 months. This test must be completed prior to submitting an application for Firefighter.
