APTIM Airboat Operator Field Technician in Belle Chasse, Louisiana
Job Summary:
Airboat Operator / Field Technician needed to work in Belle Chasse, LA. This role will perform a variety of duties for the Coastwide Reference Monitoring System (CRMS) program. Wetland restoration efforts conducted in Louisiana require monitoring the effectiveness of individual projects as well as monitoring the cumulative effects of all projects in restoring, creating, enhancing, and protecting the coastal landscape. CRMS is a multiple reference approach that uses aspects of hydrogeomorphic functional assessments and probabilistic sampling. This approach includes a suite of sites that encompass the range of ecological conditions for each stratum, with projects placed on a continuum of conditions found for that stratum.
Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities:
Airboat and watercraft operation
Expected to operate and perform routine maintenance on all company owned watercraft and vehicles in coastal Louisiana setting.
Help prepare for all field activities, perform moderate construction work, and assist scientists with data collection.
Maintain and clean shop area and all equipment, tools, and instruments owned by company.
Basic Qualifications:
Job requires extensive boating experience and excellent driving record.
Airboat operating experience preferred
Some mechanical knowledge of Airboats, outboards, mud engines, trailers and trucks needed.
Must be able to perform work in harsh physical conditions in the field (work in hot/cold environments, inclement weather).
Must be able to manage own time to meet deadlines set by others. Works with others as part of a team and performs all duties in a safe and professional manner.
Communication skills with team and management
Field work 70% of the time, shop work 30% of the time but may change during different sampling periods throughout the year.
