Florida Crystals Corporation Production Supervisor in Belle Glade, Florida

Florida Crystals is a leading domestic sugar producer and North America’s first fully integrated cane sugar company, guiding our sugar from farm to table. We are America’s first and only producer of certified organic sugar, grown and harvested in the United States. Our renewable energy facility is the largest of its kind in North America and provides clean energy that powers our sugar operations, which helps us reduce our use of fossil fuels. Florida Crystals also sustainably farms rice, sweet corn and other vegetables in rotation with our sugarcane. Our rice mill is the only rice mill in Florida.

OVERVIEW

Support the Director of Farming and Farm Managers with the supervision and execution of safety policies and key activities at a specific time of the year. These critical activities include but are not limited to the application of soil amendments, land preparation, seed quality, planting, crop and pest scouting, cultivation, water management, rotation/alternative crops, and supervision of harvesting. These activities must be production and cost goal oriented.

DETAILED ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Comply with and enforce Florida Crystals Corporation’s Environmental Health and Safety Policy (EHS) (See Policy), must understand and adhere to all Florida Crystals Corporation’s policies and procedures

  • Attend safety meetings as required by FCC safety policies and goals

  • Supervise and execute the crop rotation plan and coordinate with alternative crop management

  • Supervise and execute the planting plan which includes but is not limited to rotation plan, variety selection, water control, land preparation, seed management, fertilization, and planting

  • Supervise harvesting schedule which includes but is not limited to chemical ripener schedule, water control at harvest sites, harvest sequence of cold tolerant varieties, days of growth in cane

  • Supervision of farm equipment operation, including scheduling, allocation and maintenance

  • Provide and maintain farm and equipment records

  • Assists the Director of Farming with cost control

  • Maintain communication with Director of Farming, Farm Manager(s), and team members; supervise team members, provide feedback to all levels and maintain a professional, courteous relationship with all internal departments and outside contractors

  • Assist in the training and development of team members to support professional growth and career path efforts

  • Coach, counsel and educate team members on company and Human Resources policies and procedures; support Florida Crystals Corporation’s Work Rules Policy; partner with Human Resources to take corrective action as needed

  • Evaluate reports, decisions and results of department in relation to established goals and competencies. Recommends new approaches, policies and procedures to effect continual improvements in efficiency of department and services performed

  • All other duties as directed by management representatives

    WORK EXPERIENCES

  • Minimum of two (2) years agricultural experience

  • Three (3) years’ experience as an Ag Tech preferred

    EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Associates degree in agriculture or related field preferred

  • Solid working knowledge of all components of agricultural operations.

  • Must be able to function independently, demonstrate flexibility and efficient time management and ability to prioritize workload

  • Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action. Exercise good judgment and solid thought process

  • Ability to apply and adapt to practices and techniques to the special requirements of senior management

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with team members, other management staff and senior level management

  • Ability to respond to inquiries and/or complaints from team members

  • Ability to use technology such as computers, mobile devices and crop management software

  • Ability to comprehend technical reading materials

  • Solid communication skills – requires the ability to effectively communicate verbally and written. Ability to effectively present information to senior management and team members

  • Must be able to coordinate multiple duties of an urgent nature

  • A valid driver’s license is required. Commercial driver’s license preferred

  • Restricted Use Pesticide License (RUP)

  • Basic Knowledge of Precision Agriculture (Preferred)

  • Bilingual Preferred (Spanish)
