Summary: JH Kelly has grown into one of the largest industrial mechanical contractors in the Pacific Northwest. The Field Engineer plays a vital role in collaborating within a team environment, actively participating in preconstruction processes, design and virtual construction, fabrication workflows, and the field installation of mechanical systems. Responsibilities include coordinating activities, resolving technical issues, and ensuring project specifications are met. The successful candidate is detail-oriented, possesses strong problem-solving skills, and thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced environment. Most of the Field Engineer's work will be on-site, focusing on heavy industrial piping. Employment is contingent upon successfully passing a pre-employment drug screen and background check.

Salary Range: $30-$42 per hour (DOE), FLSA non-exempt (OT eligible).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Participate in the creation and response to RFIs.

  • Piping and Process Equipment Installation.

  • Plan and coordinate work packaging to fit site-specific construction schedules.

  • Work with construction and design professionals in the main office and the job site.

  • Able to interpret and convey Engineer of Record Specifications and Design Documents.

  • Provide recommended solutions for day-to-day engineering/construction issues on a timely basis.

  • Assist with estimating takeoffs.

  • Perform additional tasks as assigned.

    Relationships:

  • Maintain proactive and positive relationships within the crafts, including shop and field craft personnel, as well as supervision of coworkers

  • Maintain proactive and positive relationships with customer representatives, vendors, suppliers, subcontractors, safety, CAD/BIM, accounting, and IT.

    Experience / Qualifications:

  • Construction Management, Mechanical, Industrial, and Civil Engineering degree and/or equivalent experience or education.

  • Minimum of (1) years of experience in the industrial construction industry.

  • Preferred: A solid theoretical knowledge of Project Management, Construction Management, Construction Contracts, Quality Assurance/Quality Control, and/or Safety.

  • Fully proficient with Microsoft Office and Bluebeam with intermediate skills in Excel.

  • Scheduling experience or education.

  • Pre-commissioning experience.

  • Proficient in reading P & ID's and Piping Isometrics.

  • Strong understanding of industrial piping and mechanical materials.

  • Working knowledge of B31.3 Process Piping.

  • Must possess or be able to obtain a TWIC card.

  • Employment is contingent upon successfully passing a pre-employment drug screen and background check.

  • Comfortable in a fast-paced environment with multiple tasks and projects at hand.

    Physical Requirements:

    Physical requirements for this role include the ability to transition frequently between an office and a construction field setting. In the office, the individual must be able to sit for extended periods while working at a computer, performing repetitive tasks such as typing and using a mouse, and communicating by telephone. In the field, the individual must be capable of standing and walking for extended periods on various surfaces, including uneven terrain, and climbing stairs as required. The role also necessitates the ability to kneel, crouch, and crawl to view/inspect tight spaces, as well as occasionally lifting 40 pounds. Good vision and hearing are essential for reading plans, inspecting work, and communicating on-site. The individual must also be adaptable to working outdoors in various weather conditions, adhere to site-specific dress codes, and comply with safety requirements by wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) such as hard hats, gloves, safety glasses, and steel-toed boots. Flexibility to travel between job sites and work outside regular business hours when necessary is also required.
