Job Description Summary
As a Lead Engineer - Computational Geometry and Mesh Generation, you will collaboratively advance methods and algorithms for computational geometry and mesh generation technology targeted at high-fidelity modeling and simulation (Large Eddy Simulation on GPUs) of components and subcomponents for GE Aerospace commercial engine programs and technology demonstration programs such as RISE (Revolutionary Innovation for Sustainable Engines). You will be a key member of a team of technologists and engineers at GE Aerospace Research collaborating with the GE Aerospace business teams to deliver on our commitment to sustainability, safety and quality for our customers while advancing aerospace and defense for future generations.
Job Description
Roles & Responsibilities:
Apply your knowledge in structured and unstructured mesh generation to develop robust and innovation algorithms for aerothermal modeling and simulation (LES) for compressors, combustors, and turbines on GPUs
Develop CFD pre-processing tools and systems targeted at aerothermal modeling and simulation for aircraft engines.
Learn existing tools and methods already in use at GE Aerospace, and test & implement algorithms in existing framework
Support technology demonstrator and engine programs by delivering state of the art computational models for simulation and design
Deliver on technical projects meeting schedules and budgets, implement plans with guidance to meet technical requirements and document results
Participate in a global team on multi-generation technology programs to enable future design advancements, while executing tasks leveraging your technical skills
Network and collaborate with GE Aerospace Business and Research team members to identify opportunities for innovation, build plans and execute on technical projects
Required Qualifications:
Ph.D. in Aerospace/Mechanical Engineering/Computer Science/Applied Mathematics with 4-8 years of experience, or M.S in Aerospace/Mechanical Engineering/Computer Science/Applied Mathematics with 8-10 years of experience specializing in computational geometry and mesh generation
Experience with structured and/or unstructured mesh generation algorithms
Fundamental knowledge of data structures with application to mesh generation and/or geometry modeling
Demonstrated fundamental knowledge in CFD (computational fluid dynamics) applied for aerodynamics, and/or combustion and/or heat transfer, evidenced by advanced graduate coursework and research
Proficiency in scientific computing and working knowledge of one of the high-level programming languages
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team environment
Desired Characteristics:
Ability to code in C / C++ / C# / Fortran preferred
Experience in scientific computing or computational methods
Experience with algorithms for GPUs
Experience / willingness to learn geometry tools like Siemens NX, and mesh generation tools including ANSYS meshing suite (ICEMCFD, FLUENT, Workbench, SpaceClaim), Numeca, and PointWise
