Description
Help deliver a new wave of robotic manipulation for contact-rich tasks in cluttered environments. With full stack teams, Amazon Robotics builds high-performance, real-time robotic systems that can perceive, learn, and act intelligently at Amazon scale. We invent and deploy AI systems for robotics in fulfillment. We build unique hardware to unlock more advanced capabilities. We integrate fleets of robots with the Amazon network to serve millions of customers across Europe and the rest of the globe. Our robots interact safely, efficiently, and fluently despite uncertainty in real-world fulfillment centers.
We are seeking a hands-on Principal Software Development Engineer to architect reliable and scalable stacks for both the edge and cloud portions of our solutions. We are a team of builders and you will be the technical engineering leader. You will be deep in code and algorithms. A successful candidate has excellent technical depth, great communication skills, and a drive to achieve results in a collaborative team environment.

Key job responsibilities
Serve as the technical lead in the architecture, design, implementation, and deployment of the next generation robotic and automation systems.
Technically lead the deliver both the edge and could stacks for scalable robotic systems with the support of dozens of engineers..
Assist directly and indirectly in the continual hiring and development of technical talent, including other Amazon Principal Engineers.
Facilitate technical collaboration across Amazon, increasing productivity and effectiveness by sharing your deep knowledge and experience.
Functionally decompose complex problems into simple, straight-forward solutions and ensure the quality of architecture and design decisions deeper in the stack.
Contribute intellectual property through patents.
Represent the team and project at high-profile internal and external events.
A day in the life
We work next to a wonderful lab space where we can iterate and test our solutions on our robots. Because we are building for our own use cases, you can expect almost all of your time to be dedicated to technical work.

Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in computer science (or related field) or equivalent industry experience
Experience leading the delivery of complex and large-scale systems
Experience leading development life cycle process and best practices
Experience mentoring/training the engineering community on complex technical issues
Preferred Qualifications
Experience deploying code to physical hardware like robotics, vehicles, consumer devices, or industrial equipment
Master’s degree or higher preferred
Ability to decompose and solve ambiguous problems through proven design skills, sharp analytical abilities, and an ability to influence/utilize technical teams to execute on those ideas
Demonstrated leadership abilities in an engineering environment, driving operational excellence and best practices across the team
Deep hands-on technical expertise in cloud-based distributed software design and development
Experience designing software architectures for scalability, reliability and performance
Ability to handle multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
Strong writing skills
