Briar Creek Township Laborer-Mechanic in Berwick, Pennsylvania

REQUIREMENT: MUST HAVE VALID COMMERCIAL DRIVERS LICENSE (CDL)

The primary responsibility of a Laborer - Mechanic is to work under the supervision of the Road Master.  Follows direction and instruction either written or verbal without excuse.  Keeps records of repairs needed on all maintenance vehicles and equipment to be performed as time warrants. Keeps open communication with the Road Master.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serves as helper on power equipment
  • Assists or leads in service and repair of power equipment and township vehicles and machinery
  • Assists in all aspects related to road maintenance, repair, and reconstruction
  • Performs township building and grounds maintenance, as directed
  • Adjusts well to adverse working conditions
  • Responds timely to emergency callout situations, unless otherwise approved
  • Follow safety practices and daily duties to ensure a safe working environment
  • Inspect equipment, facilities, grounds, and township roads; check for safety hazards, diagnose problems and determine need for maintenance or repair; provide ongoing assessment of operations and recommend improvements
  • Perform related duties as required or assigned by the Board of Supervisors

Required Skills:

  • High school education/GED
  • Knowledge in safe work practices
  • First Aid/AED Certification within one year of hire
  • Must have and maintain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and clean driving record per Pennsylvania Department of Transportation requirements (must also be registered with the Federal Clearinghouse, CDL reporting requirement)

Abilities required:

This position requires sitting, standing, walking or moving throughout the community, often for extended periods of the workday.  Must be able to verbally communicate efficiently and see with near acuity of 20 inches or less and far acuity of 20 feet or more with depth perception, accommodation and field of vision.  Occasionally may lift objects up to 40 pounds in an upward movement or from position to position at the same level.  Performs a variety of duties, able to make judgements.  Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions that are relevant to the various community and facility settings.  Driving is required for this position, as well as proficient handling of a variety of machinery and equipment.
