THIS POSITION IS CONTINGENT UPON BID AWARD

The Optometrist will work with CHS and the Vision Center of Excellence (VCE) in the advancement of vision-related education, training, and readiness and vision rehabilitation education across a wide range of constituents.

Responsibilities

  • Provide Subject Matter Expertise in general and subspecialty optometry in support of studies related to eye care.

  • Relay data analysis and submission of related findings.

  • Examine, diagnose, and treat conditions of the visual system with ophthalmic lenses, ophthalmic prisms, contact lenses, and low vision aids.

  • Participate in the examination, diagnosis, treatment and management of diseases, injuries, and refractive surgery of the eye and ocular adnexa.

  • Will function as an optometric faculty member in the Ophthalmology Residency Program.

  • Provide outpatient clinic visits for refractive surgery exams at an average of six to twelve each duty day averaged over an eight-hour day depending on the type of visit and the exam schedule.

  • Provide other outpatient clinic visits at a minimum average of two to four per hour when there are no sufficient ophthalmic patients available to meet the ophthalmic minimum requirements (depending on the nature of the clinic). This shall include initial visits as well as follow-up visits.

  • Coordinate all vision refractive surgery research projects to include assisting the Principal Investigator or designated representative with writing protocols, tracking consent, performing technical part of exams and evaluations, completion of required IRB forms and reports, and prepare final presentation or journal.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited school or college of optometry.

  • Possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted license to practice optometry in one of the 50 United States, District of Columbia, Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, Guam, or U.S. Virgin

  • Minimum three (3) years of experience providing optometry health care as an Optometrist and current on contact hours/national certification requirements.

  • Minimum two (2) years of VCE experience, Preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Experience in Combat Ocular Injuries Preferred.

  • Experience with optometric practice, clinical research, and vision care practice management.

  • Knowledge of all aspects of refractive surgery, pre-operative, and post-operative management of refractive surgery patients.

  • Knowledge of clinic regulations, policies, and procedures to receive visitors and patients, screen phone calls, and answer or refer questions.

  • Knowledge of the internal organization of patient records in order to search the record to extract medical information and data relevant to patient care.

  • Knowledge of requisitioning equipment, supplies, and services.

  • Ability to obtain privileges at the MTF through approval of the credentials committee.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
