Job Title: Assistant Hatchery Supervisor  (Wildlife Biologist II) - Egan Fish Hatchery Job Description: Do you have a passion for fish and want to contribute to raising a large portion of the fish that fill our beautiful state's waters? If so,the Utah Department of Natural Resources,Division of Wildlife Resources is seeking an Assistant Hatchery Supervisor who will help maintain brood fish,spawn fish,oversee egg development and maintain the hatchery facility and equipment at the Egan State Fish Hatchery in Bicknell,Utah. Principle Duties: As an assistant hatchery supervisor,you will:

  • Propagating fish.
  • Feeding fish,using proper feed levels and feeding techniques.
  • Supervise 2 full-time subordinates
  • Cleaning troughs,raceways,quiescent zones,and other water management structures.
  • Assisting receiving and egg disinfection operations.
  • Assist supervisor in feed ordering,planning production needs,and producing monthly reports.
  • Oversee and assist with necropsies of various fish groups.
  • Gathering biological data and entering data into databases and other agency programs.
  • Maintaining facilities,equipment,lawns,shrubbery,and hatchery grounds.
  • Inspecting facilities,machinery,equipment,systems,etc.,to verify safety,maintenance,conditions,functions,and quality. 
  • Assisting with diagnosing and repairing electrical,plumbing,and mechanical issues.
  • Assisting with hatchery tours and helping with non-hatchery division projects.
  • Attending training in various areas of the division and hatchery operations.

The Ideal Candidate: The ideal candidate will have:

  • a bachelors degree in aquaculture 
  • knowledge of and experience with fish production procedures,loading densities,fish stocking
  • knowledge of and/or experience with coldwater fish culture
  • basic maintenance and construction trade skills such as electrical,plumbing,heating and air,welding,carpentry,etc. 
  • the ability and willingness to learn new skills
  • the ability to follow directions accurately
  • excellent written and oral communication skills
  • a valid Utah driver's license

*Preference will be given to candidates with a bachelor s degree in a natural resources field. Additional preference will be given to candidates with a master's degree in a wildlife-related natural resources field or other applicable field that is beneficial for the position. Preference for years of demonstrated successful full-time work experience will vary based on the specific position.

Paid Time Off:

  • Annual leave and sick leave are accrued at 4 hours per pay period each (4 hours annual,4 hours sick).
