Amentum Manufacturing Engineer - Senior Level in Bingham Farms, Michigan

Manufacturing Engineer will oversee and coordinate work as part of customer led team.

Will be responsible for working within the customer’s manufacturing engineering automotive process team to support customer and deliver technical expertise for the purpose of supporting vehicle assembly equipment commissioning and launch and other operational support as necessary.

Will also be responsible for executing high quality results on a compressed delivery timeline.

Must have at least 20+ years of manufacturing, industrial engineering and/or plant and operations experience, which may include but not be limited to new model manufacturing engineering, production management, maintenance management, and launch management.

Must understand production facility requirements as they relate to automotive manufacturing equipment and processes and be able to lead technical team members to support customer in commissioning and launching new assembly equipment on a compressed timeline.

  • Lead commissioning activities on the plant floor for a new line of assembly equipment. This will include oversight and program management of activities required to achieve PPAP, cycle-time and throughput.

  • Design and implement body manufacturing processes & equipment to grow production capacity in line with corporate goals.

  • Partner with production engineers and leaders to ensure a successful ramp and long-term production.

  • Provide product feedback to design engineering teams to ensure manufacturability without compromising product function or performance.

  • Ensure achievement of safety, quality, cost, timing & throughput targets on all projects.

  • Provide regular, metric-based project updates to the management team.

  • Understand and follow company and industry standards and best practices in project implementation.

  • Actively look for ways to add value beyond specifically assigned scope of work.

  • Challenge assumptions that are not backed up by a thorough engineering evaluation.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or similar technical field OR 20 years relevant experience

  • 15+ years of experience in an engineering role related to manufacturing equipment and process

  • Knowledgeable in high and low volume manufacturing skills and concepts (cycle time analysis, quality control, equipment efficiency, equipment selection, return on investment, etc.).

  • Knowledge of Lean manufacturing, cycle time and throughput analysis and process optimization.

  • Experience with managing a manufacturing team to deliver key customer metrics

  • Demonstrated ability to solve complex technical problems and see the solution implemented to a high level of accuracy & quality.

  • Ability to work independently to develop a plan to execute deliverables with general guidance.

  • Capable of working as a member of a team across several cross functional disciplines, including with external stakeholders.

  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.

  • Experienced in working within 2D & 3D CAD environments.

Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

Must have excellent written and oral communication skills and be fluent in the Microsoft Office suite of software applications. Must be able to work seamlessly with customer to interface and coordinate between manufacturing engineering staff and facilities designers to deliver required outputs on time and with a high degree of quality.

Will require travel as required by customer (up to 100%). Some remote work may be required.

Unusual or Special Physical Requirements

Lifting - Must be able to occasionally lift and carry up to 30 lbs. of project related items, such as documentation, office supplies, PPE and other related items.

Special closing/equipment (wearing): Potential for office PPE related to COVID-19 and proper footwear and PPE for any required visits to construction site.
