  • Hydrogeological contribution to engineering studies and environmental impact assessments for mining and other development projects;

  • Supporting senior staff in the development and reporting of hydrogeological conceptual models and risk assessments;

  • Development of analytical and numerical groundwater models using state of the art modelling software;

  • Project-based travel and site work, working away from home both in the UK and internationally. The frequency and duration of this will depend on business and client need;

  • Performing and reporting of field work for integrated hydrogeological and geotechnical programmes, to include: monitoring, supervision of borehole drilling and monitoring well installation, aquifer testing (including the use of borehole packers), geotechnical and geological logging and other field tasks as required;

  • Collation, analysis and quality management of hydrogeological, hydrological and geotechnical data;

  • Supporting the development and maintenance of client relationships, either through project-based client interaction or through supporting business development efforts of senior staff;

  • Project coordination, managing and participating actively in the development of budgets, schedules and plans for projects and proposals; and

  • Working in a collaborative manner with colleagues from other disciplines within WSP as required.

This job description describes the principal purpose and main elements of the job. OUR TEAM

Our UK and Ireland Mine Water team is formed of groundwater, surface water and geochemistry professionals with experience ranging from graduate level to 30 plus years of experience. This presents an opportunity to work on projects internationally and learn from experienced colleagues at different stages of their career and with different areas of technical expertise. We contribute to all parts of the mining life cycle, from exploration and pre-feasibility through to mine closure.

The Assistant Hydrogeologist will work within the team on a range of projects predominantly within the mining business, although there is also the potential to work with other local sectors including infrastructure, manufacturing and land development.

  • You’ll have an MSc Hydrogeology (or equivalent) combined with a first in a BSc degree (or equivalent) in a related discipline (e.g. geology, mining, geotechnical engineering, civil engineering, environmental science etc.).

  • You’ll ideally have some relevant practical/consultancy experience.

  • You’ll have strong communication skills, both verbal and written, in English.

  • You’ll have proven technical and report writing skills.

  • You’ll display initiative and engage decision making skills.

  • You’ll have good organisational abilities and time management skills.

  • You’ll show enthusiasm for the discipline, demonstrating a continued desire to learn and grow.

  • You’ll enjoy working in a team environment, sharing ideas and collaborating with colleagues.

  • You’ll have confidence to work under pressure with the ability to prioritise and plan effectively.

Desirable:

  • Competency with GIS and MS Office (Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook).

  • Previous experience of working within a consultancy environment and/or on mining projects and additional language skills;

  • Flexibility, willingness and ability to travel both locally and internationally;

  • Previous experience of field work (e.g. groundwater monitoring, drill rig supervision, aquifer testing etc)

  • Previous experience of hydrogeological modelling or analysis packages (e.g. AQTESOLV, MODFLOW, FEFLOW, SEEP/W, SURFER, Leapfrog or GoldSIM) (desirable); and

  • Full Driving Licence.
