Bournville Manufacturing is the home of the UK’s most iconic confectionary brand, Cadbury’s. We are now looking for a Senior Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) Specialist focus to join us, at the heart of within our fantastic HSE Team.

How you will contribute

  • Responsible for coordinating of all Environment, Health & Safety programs and processes.

  • Particpates in investigations to facilitate closure of identified non conformances and trains the teams on what a quality investigation looks like.

  • Provides Health & Safety expertise for the plant for all new projects and change management activities.

  • Follows up on non-conformances and develops the systems to resolve them based on root cause analysis.

  • Understands relevant technical requirements in Environment, Health & Safety and ensures compliance with regulatory requirements and Company Policies.

  • Ensures appropriate risk assessments are conducted and follow ups implemented to minimize or eliminate accidents or asset losses that might cause harm to one of the company’s employees, contractors or property.

  • Facilitates implementation of corrective and preventative actions where required for EHS.

  • Ensures the facility standards are in compliance with both Company and government regulations.

  • Ensures training and coaching are taking place to drive a safety-perfect culture and to ensure Health & Safety standards and awareness are well understood throughout the plant organization. Be a lead for culture change and drive behavioural safety as a way of life. Be the lead in driving this behavior in all levels of the site – including PLT.

  • Able to see gaps in the training agenda and develop courses as and when appropriate

  • Drive the key elements of training to management level employees – eg Critical Safety Training, Incident Investigations, Permit to Work, Manual Handling etc

  • Ensures that Contractors permanently based on site have robust Environment, Health and Safety procedures and systems developed in line with Mondelez expectations.

  • Know the ethical and legal compliance responsibilities of the position to lead ethically and model compliant behavior and maintain an environment where employees can speak up and raise issues without fear of retaliation.

  • Act as deputy for the HSE manager when he/she is not available. Eg on Safety Tower and safety reviews with senior stakeholders and internally in DMS4.

  • Able to coach the less experienced members of the team and drive a pipeline of talent within the business.

  • Act as Line manager for any Admin or Apprentice resource that the department is allocated.

  • Be a key system owner and develop site strategy along with ownership of the Safety Pillar for IL6S. Drive the development of the 3-5 year plan alongside EHS manager

  • Budget holder for safety - ensure financial targets are met

  • Develop a pipe line of projects and develop them working alongside engineering department and operations

What you will bring

A desire to drive your future and accelerate your career. You will bring experience and knowledge in:

  • Degree or equivalent qualification in Engineering, Environment or Safety (e.g. Nebosh Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent).

  • Knowledge of Environmental Management Systems and some experience of working with Governing Bodies (such as the HSE, EA or Local Authorities).

  • Demonstrates good process management and pragmatic business application of systems and functional principles and standards.

  • Understands the importance of building a good safety culture, working with key stakeholders to drive engagement across both core and non-core populations.

  • Experience as a Health & Safety practitioner, with some experience in an FMCG environment.

  • Dynamic, tenacious and courageous.

  • Able to build relationships with key stakeholders and peers.

  • Able to communicate, present and train others well.

  • Excellent command of written and spoken English.

  • Tech savvy with experience of Windows and an ability to adapt to other systems as and when required

  • Demonstrated ability create a motivational environment, driving good health and safety culture.

  • Technical functional excellence in Health & Safety and demonstrated through leadership.

Preferred:

  • Demonstrated ability to develop passion, understanding and capability for functional agenda in others in the business.

  • Strong change management skills.

  • Understanding of CDM and some project management skills would be preferable.

  • Experience in auditing on ISO 14001 and 18001 standards.

  • Underlying knowledge of Process Safety Management (such as ATEX, Chemical and Fire Risk Management)
