Idaho Department of Insurance Career Opportunity

TheIdaho Department of Insurance (https://doi.idaho.gov/) is seeking to fill a health insurance analyst to join our dynamic team of professionals. Experience with medical language, paying carriers claims, reviewing marketing ads and/or rates experience is a plus! This position plays an important role in our Rates and Forms section by reviewing insurance contracts and rate filings as well as communicating with insurance companies regarding statutory compliance. Ideal candidates will have experience in the health insurance industry.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES

  • Reviews insurance contracts forms and filings for compliance with applicable laws.

  • Analyzes insurance forms to identify code violations and recommends revisions to carriers.

  • Monitors legislative and regulatory issues regarding insurance.

  • Communicates interpretations and justifications of code violations and penalties to companies.

  • Tracks progress of reviews by accurately inputting data in in in an electronic records system.

  • Occasionally performs lead work responsibilities which includes assigning work providing direction and monitoring the sections workload.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Good knowledge of:

  • Health and disability insurance contracts and coverages. Typically gained by two (2) years or more of full-time work experience where duties regularly required reviewing, interpreting and analyzing health and disability insurance contracts and coverages (i.e. claims, underwriting, etc.); OR at least two (2) courses covering health insurance related subjects such as Life Office Management Association (LOMA) or equivalent college-level coursework specializing in health insurance AND at least one (1) year of full-time work experience performing the duties as described above. Four years of experience working 20 hours per week equates to two years of work experience.

Experience:

  • Interpreting and analyzing state and federal insurance laws policies rules and regulation. Typically gained by one (1) year or more of full-time work experience where duties regularly required reviewing for compliance with state and federal health insurance laws rural policies and procedures; And explaining discrepancies and code violations to company personnel. Make sure your answer is supported in your attached resume. When responding to work experience statements, the intent is that this be full-time work of at least 35 hours per week. Two years of experience working 20 hours per week equates to one year of work experience.

  • Preparing written reports and correspondence. Typically gained by six (6) months or more of full-time work experience where duties included analyzing financial or insurance policy benefits and providing in a written format information addressing the problem. Make sure your answer is supported in your attached resume. When responding to work experience statements, the intent is that this be full-time work of at least 35 hours per week. One year of experience working 20 hours per week equates to six months of work experience.

  • Using an electronic record system to obtain and retrieve data and produce reports. Typically gained with one (1) year or more of full-time work experience where your job duties required using computer programs to write and customize reports, as well as importing and exporting data. Make sure your answer is supported in your attached resume. When responding to work experience statements, the intent is that this be full-time work of at least 35 hours per week. Two years of experience working 20 hours per week equates to one year of work experience.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION

The ideal candidate will have the ability to:

  • Navigate electronic documents and websites.

  • Interact and communicate effectively on the telephone and in writing.

  • Proficiently use assigned databases, software, and application within assigned timeframe(s).

  • Multitask, organize, and prioritize.

Focused experience in the health insurance field with additional experience in property and casualty is highly desirable.
