Summary Statement
Maintenance Mechanic - Aquatics maintains and repairs City of Boise swimming pool water quality systems, mechanical and plumbing equipment, pool site amenities and park grounds. This position works under immediate/direct supervision.

Essential Functions
Oversees and directs the operational procedures for maintaining the chemical balance of all the water in the City of Boise pools. Monitors and maintains pool water quality and temperature. Inspects, maintains and repairs chemical controllers, chlorine gas feed systems, chemical injection pumps and plumbing systems. (30%)
Inspects and repairs pool structural components, mechanical equipment and plumbing and circulation systems to ensure safe site facilities. Ensures safety requirements for using personal protective equipment to handle hazardous chemicals are followed. (30%)
Controls onsite pool chemical storage, purchase, transportation and disposal safety. (10%)
Provides daily inspections of each pool facility to ensure they are maintained cleanly and safely. Develops and implements pool mechanical operation procedures and inspection schedules. (10%)
Plans for and performs year-round facility maintenance projects on park building structures, electrical and lighting systems, locker rooms, drinking water fountains, showers and restrooms. Performs seasonal maintenance on turf irrigation systems. Trains and oversees infrastructure seasonal maintenance staff. Designs and draws plans for future projects, researches the proper methods and materials and organizes the purchase of all required items. (10%)
Maintains record-keeping of daily inspections. Prepares for scheduled and random site inspections. Ensures all operational records are properly documented. Trains seasonal pool staff in regulatory requirements and pool operation procedures. Maintains inventory audits and provides information for the department budget. (10%)

Requirements
Required Knowledge, Experience, And Training
High school diploma or equivalent and two years of experience in swimming pool maintenance and operation, building and structure repair and grounds keeping, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge of: swimming pool water chemistry requirements and chemical safety procedures; pool and building mechanical and electrical systems; methods, practices, tools and materials used in structural repairs to buildings and plumbing maintenance and repair work; computer usage, including related software; turf maintenance; industry publications and their use for current information regarding equipment, legislative changes, liability concerns and pool management practices; and repairing hard surface areas involving carpentry, masonry, concrete and metalworking.
Ability to: maintain and troubleshoot pool system components; program and operate computerized pool and irrigation systems; operate hand and power tools such as a table saw, hot saw, chop saw, band saw, arc welder, plasma torch, generator, compressor, portable pump and sandblaster; make decisions and delegate tasks to seasonal maintenance staff; make emergency repairs to equipment and facilities; lift and move objects over seventy-five pounds; communicate the English language effectively orally and in writing at a level necessary for efficient job performance; and perform all essential functions as assigned by an authorized employee, supervisor and/or manager with or without reasonable accommodation.
Individuals must be capable of operating vehicles safely and have an acceptable driving record.
Preferred Knowledge, Experience, And Training
Four years of experience in swimming pool operation and maintenance.
Scuba diving open water certification.
Aquatic facility operator (AFO) certification.
First aid and CPR certification.
Licensing And Other Requirements
Valid state-issued driver's license.
Certified Pool Operator (CPO) issued by the National Swimming Pool Foundation.
The following certifications are issued through the City of Boise and must be obtained within six weeks of employment:; Confined Space Certification.; Chemical Safety Certification.; First Aid and CPR Certification.
Special Requirements
Applicants must be able to pass:
City of Boise background check processes which includes a criminal history check and reference checks in accordance with the City of Boise Hiring Process Regulation

Physical Efforts
While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently lifting/carrying up to 100 pounds. Also, the employee is frequently pushing/pulling up to 100 pounds and occasionally pushing/pulling up to 75 pounds. The noise level is occasionally moderate. Work includes sensory ability to talk, hear, smell and touch. Work in this position also includes close vision, distance vision and depth perception. Employees will sit, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, grasp, climb and balance. Position requires hand/finger dexterity.
Working Environment
The work environment will include outdoor weather conditions. Employees are exposed to mechanical and electrical hazards and confined spaces. Employees will also drive a vehicle as part of this position. Work includes protected exposure to infectious bacteria, bodily fluids and chemicals.
This position works: a rotating on-call schedule.
