GENERAL SUMMARY AND PURPOSE:

Responsible for planning, organizing and directing clinical pharmaceutical services within the organization. Responsible for maintaining a competent staff to deliver services accurately and efficiently.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy required. Doctor of Pharmacy degree preferred. Must be licensed as a Pharmacist with the Idaho State Board of Pharmacy.

Pharmacy residency preferred. Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist preferred. Management/supervisory or clinical program coordination experience preferred.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Knows, understands, incorporates, and demonstrates the Organization's Mission, Vision, and Values in behaviors, practices, and decisions.

Demonstrates knowledge and skills to competently care for all assigned age groups (Neonate, Child, Adolescent, Adult, and Geriatric as applicable).

Develops short- and long-range plans for clinical pharmacy services. Provides clinical consultation and support to pharmacist, and other staff upon request. Clinically trains new pharmacists. Coordinates pharmacy student clinical rotation program including student education, presentations, projects and evaluations.

Assists Director of Pharmacy in developing and implementing pharmacy policies and procedures and reviews other disciplines' policies or protocols as needed. Provides drug information to health care providers in reply to specific requests. Facilitates establishment of new drugs on formulary. Reviews existing formulary for possible deletions. Updates physicians and hospital staff on formulary changes. Actively manages the department pharmaceutical budget in collaboration with the director. Identifies and provides educational programs necessary to maintain staff competency. Develops and renews prescriptive authority programs and gains approval from the Idaho State Board of Pharmacy.

Educates staff and performs quality improvement of the programs. Manages pharmaceutical supply situations. Manages product shortages through communication with the pharmacy staff, nursing staff and physicians. Coordinates regulatory requirements for clinical activities.

Coordinates the department's clinical quality assurance activities and documentation. Performs the job duties of the clinical pharmacists. Acts as an on-call clinical specialist for consultations and staff support. Coordinates and supervises pharmacy staff during the director's absence. Demonstrate excellent interpersonal and management skills. Must be very articulate, possess a professional business manner and have excellent organizational and written/verbal communication skills. Ability to work in teams and build consensus.
