GENERAL SUMMARY AND PURPOSE:

Under the direct supervision of the Technical Systems Coordinator, assists in the planning, managing, coordinating, executing and supporting the activities of the regional laboratory information system regarding the clinical laboratory, anatomic pathology, transfusion service, and related programs.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor's Degree with Medical Laboratory Science and/or Information Technology background required. In lieu of Bachelor's Degree, 4 years of experience with laboratory information systems, information technology systems, or medical laboratory science is required. Medical Laboratory Science Certification preferred.

Lab experience required.

The following certifications are acceptable: Medical Technologist (MT), Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS), Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) or equivalent certification by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Experience with Cerner, Sunquest, and EPIC applications preferred.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Knows, understands, incorporates, and demonstrates the Organization's Mission, Vision, and Values in behaviors, practices, and decisions. Effectively communicates, both verbally and written, with department coordinator, pathologists, system TIS, local site laboratory managers, co-workers, clients, vendors, nurses and clinicians to ensure optimum department performance.

Must be self-motivated with the ability to work independently or as part of a team. Must have experience in human relations, teams, communications, and project management. Under the direction of the department coordinator builds and maintains internal and outreach LIS data bases to include test area, production, interfaces, tickets and reports.

Oversees LIS functionality (disk space, billing, interfaces). Collaborates and coordinates between vendor LIS and site personnel in the installation of instrument interfaces for SAHS. Manages outreach CRM and courier dispatch system(s). Develops and manages testing plans for any changes to the LIS or other areas where there is a change in the systems, software, hardware, interfaces, forms, formats, policies, procedures which would impact the LIS or any computer supported functions related to the laboratory. Along with the department coordinator ensures testing plans are performed and accurately reflect functionality of the change.

Monitors LIS ticket software (QuickBase). Troubleshoots client tickets. Collaborates with client, vendor system TIS, and others to resolve system LIS related problems or requests. Maintains all documentation of actions taken on tickets. Determines ticket prioritization, escalation, or redefinition as projects and acts accordingly. Participates and contributes expertise on all decisions related to LIS. Provides project management support, tracking of timelines and deadlines to SAHS Laboratory business development and incoming projects. Works to ensure Laboratory LIS regulatory compliance is maintained per CAP or other regulatory agencies as applicable. Ensures system security measures meet HIPPA requirements.

Maintains a detailed knowledge of systems currently operational at SAHS. Serves as lab point of contact for tactical and operational questions about SAHS LIS projects. Continually evaluates LIS functionality and performance issues and updates/adjusts builds as needed. Evaluates, installs, configures, tests and updates computing hardware and software systems. Tests software updates on LIS to ensure processing of patient results is accurate and reliable before software of test modifications are moved into production. Provides post go live support as needed.

Demonstrates knowledge of HL7 order/result interfaces. Assists in oversight of the contracting processing for EMR vendors and confirms the accuracy and schedules of quotes, approvals, PO's, and invoices for Sunquest, LifePoint, and EMR vendors. Contributes to system policies and procedures as needed.

Assists the department coordinator and billing department in the maintenance of the laboratory change master in accordance with regulatory agencies. Assists in revenue and billing duties as needed.
