Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) currently has an opening for a Trainer, Associate Equipment Operator Trainer. Equipment Operator Trainers may be required to travel up to 50% of the time as they will teach equipment operation in all 6 districts at ITD. Preference will be given to applicants that reside or will move to Districts 3 or 4, however there is a possibility to live anyplace in the state. This position will create and present specialized training to district staff members, with an emphasis on but not limited to equipment operation. Additional consideration will be given to applicants that have experience operating, maintaining, and training others in the proper operation and maintenance of construction equipment.

Notice: This position will be an underfill for a Training Specialist. Upon satisfactory completion of training, the successful candidate will be moved to the Training Specialist classification with appropriate salary consideration. The pay range for the Training Specialist classification is $27.69 to $31.15

Example of Duties

  1. Instruction and evaluation.

    Typical responsibilities: assesses training needs through surveys, and interviews; plans or participates in developing training course objectives; obtains training materials designed to meet needs and objectives, modifying as needs dictate; presents training/instruction to both groups and individuals; evaluates training effectiveness based on feedback of participants and management; may oversee maintenance of training records and resource library. Equipment Operator Training is very hands on and will be done outdoors in all weather conditions.

  2. Training coordination and skill development.

    Typical responsibilities: coordinates scheduling of training courses, audiovisual equipment and other training aids; may coordinate training with other organizations; may help identify, orient, and schedule contract trainers; receives training and participates in needs assessment, course objectives development, and evaluation; drafts and reviews training plans with supervisor prior to implementation; studies and applies adult learning theory, group process and training methods to instruct adult groups and individuals.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Good Knowledge of

    • Must have a current class A CDL with no restrictions

    • Experience operating a variety of construction equipment

    • Experience properly maintaining construction equipment

    Some knowledge of

    • Training methods.

    • Developing training

    • Presenting in front of groups

    Desired experience

    • Working in highway construction, maintenance; design, and/or

    • Training others in highway construction, design, and/or maintenance.
