The Watauga County Parks and Recreation Department is seeking qualified individuals to work as Summer Camp Counselors. Summer Camp Counselors lead and supervise youth in the summer day camp program. This person must be a responsible and highly self-motivated individual who likes children and has experience setting up and organizing various activities for children. Candidates should be outgoing and able to relate well with parents and children of different age groups and cultures. Responsibilities will include: planning, organizing, and supervising recreational activities which may include: arts and crafts, music, sports, special events, special populations, and additional specialty programming; supervising children at all times; working with staff to ensure camp safety and program quality; cleaning of camp facility usage; ensuring camp safety and program quality; securing camp facilities daily; providing positive reinforcement for children; communicating with children and parents effectively and respectfully; and performing additional duties as assigned. Physical requirements may include: lifting, carrying, crawling, swimming, bending, stooping, stretching, walking, and crawling. The ability to work with all demographics and populations is required. Experience working with children, job-related education, or training in recreation is desired. A background check is required. This will be a part-time position. Hours will include weekday Monday - Friday. WCPRD summer camp staff training/orientation will be provided; First Aid and CPR training will be offered. CPR and first aid certification is highly recommended. Wage and Compensation Benefits: $12/hour.
