Dana-Farber Cancer Institute Associate Director Data Analysis & Management in Boston, Massachusetts

The Associate Director, Data Analysis and Management, under the Director and the PI of the Cohort Studies, is responsible for the oversight, management and coordination of the data analysis and management related to cohort and translational studies in the Department of Breast Oncology. The primary focus of the Associate Director, Data Analysis and Management is the oversight of analytic dataset generation for specific outcomes and translational research studies. The Associate Director, Data Analysis and Management will also supervise the Senior Research Project Manager (Sr. RPM) in the oversight and management of the central research databases supporting the cohort studies and the associated data abstraction and quality assurance processes for the clinical data.

More specifically, the Associate Director will oversee, direct and supervise the work of the Sr. RPM, Data Management, along with the team of Senior Research Data Specialists (RDS) who conduct medical record abstraction and BOC cohort programmers/analysts. As part of the main responsibilities overseeing data analysis for specific investigator outcomes and translational studies, the Associate Director will work collaboratively to execute the analytic plans and to generate robust datasets with the faculty investigators, the team of cohort programmers/analysts, and the Head of Women’s Cancers Biostatistics and her team of biostatisticians. The Associate Director, Data Analysis and Management will also work closely and collaboratively with staff members such as the Associate Directors of Cohort Studies Operations and Translational Research, other Research Project Managers at all levels in the Breast Oncology Department, as well as the Institute’s AIOS team and other key stakeholders. Day-to-day responsibilities include overseeing and facilitating all data-related queries, generating of study datasets in collaboration with the investigators, programmers and biostatisticians, and maintaining standard data management processes and quality assurance procedures for the department’s databases. Most importantly, this individual is responsible for creating a proactive, knowledgeable and cohesive data analytic and management platform that will support the research community in collaboration with the Director and PI of the Cohort and Translational Studies Program in BOC.

The selected candidate may only work remotely within the New England states (ME, VT, NH, MA, CT, RI).

  • Oversee the creation of analytic datasets for specific investigator outcomes and translational studies to execute the aims stated in the statistical analytic plans within the stated deadlines and in accordance with the data use agreements.

  • Develop and execute standard data management processes and quality assurance procedures for the department’s research databases, including addition of new data elements and data collection forms when needed overall and for ad hoc studies, in collaboration with Senior RPM of Data Management, Director and PI of the Cohorts and Translational Program.

  • Oversee the creation and maintenance with standard programming algorithms for frequently-asked derived variables (e.g. tumor subtype status, treatment category, time to next treatment etc), with Senior RPM, team of cohorts programmers and biostatisticians.

  • Oversee the design and maintenance of the Breast Oncology Cloud-based Warehouse as it relates to the research databases and other databases for the clinic and Translational Hub in coordination with the other Associate Directors of Cohort Studies Operations, Translational Research, and Translational Hub.

  • Responsible for assuring that the study team meets all deadlines and prepares and presents status reports to investigators and key stakeholders. Depending on project needs, these reports may include information about project timelines, status of deliverables, and/or resources requirements.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Will supervise Research Project Managers I, II, and Senior and Research Data Specialist I, II, and Senior Research Project Manager(s).

  • Master’s Degree with at least 7 years experience of multi-project management and data analysis experience required; or PhD preferred.

  • Previous supervisory experience required.

  • Experience in an academic institution is preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Ability to lead multiple projects.

  • Ability to oversee all aspects of project management scope defined deliverables and required key performance standards.

  • Must demonstrate a history of proven success in the clinical research field.

  • Experience in an academic institution is preferred.

  • Must have knowledge of regulatory affairs, research ethics and the responsible conduct of research.

  • Ability to perform routine tasks related to the coordination of data.

  • Ability to identify problems or potential obstacles and escalate appropriately.

  • Has critical thinking skills and an appropriate level of good professional judgment

  • Demonstrates an ability to mentor and assist in the resolution of complex issues.

  • Exhibits good judgment when determining appropriate escalation.

  • Able to instruct others on best practices.

  • Ability to take on a leadership role (e.g., reviewing others' work, providing appropriate feedback, conducting training, coaching).
