REPORTS TO: Data & Evaluation Manager BACKGROUND: The Office of Health and Wellness (OHW), leads the district's efforts to address health inequities that interfere with academic success by increasing the quantity and improving the quality of health education, physical education, physical activity, and social-emotional learning in schools, improving staff wellness, and creating a healthier school environment in which the healthy choice is the easy choice. In a district-wide, strategic effort to address health inequities that interfere with academic success, the Boston Public Schools (BPS) Office of Health and Wellness (OHW) receives funding from the Center for Disease Control for the Empowering Teens Through Health (ETTH) Grant. The ETTH grant aims to improve the behaviors and experiences of middle and high school students and reduce disparities in sexual risk behavior, substance use, experience of violence, poor mental health, and suicidality by supporting schools to deliver high-quality health education, increasing access to needed health services, including behavioral and mental health services, create safe and supportive school environments. A key component of the grant is the implementation of two national school-based surveillance tools: 1) the Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS) used to monitor critical health-related behaviors of middle and high school-aged youth and; 2) the School Health Profiles (Profiles), a system of school leader and teacher surveys assessing school health policies and practices. Results from the YRBS and Profiles provide critical public health data and are used in a variety of venues to develop and evaluate policy, to plan and improve youth-based health programs, and to determine existing health needs to develop effective intervention programs. POSITION OVERVIEW: We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented individual to fill the role of Grant & Survey Coordinator. This position requires strong communication skills, attention to detail, the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders, and the ability to coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously to ensure the success of survey initiatives. The Grant & Survey Coordinator will work with the grant leadership team to support the implementation, management, and reporting of the ETTH grant. The position will also assist the Data and Evaluation Manager with the planning and administration of the High School and Middle School YRBS and the Profiles, the analysis and dissemination of survey findings, and support the collection of grant evaluation data. This position will be responsible for supporting a range of survey development, administration, reporting, and data dissemination tasks. Finally, the Grant & Survey Coordinator will work closely with the Health Promotions Coordinator to oversee other grant tasks. The primary roles and responsibilities will vary based on the project. RESPONSIBILITIES: Support Programmatic Reporting Activities Serve as primary point-of-contact for grant updates and inquiries from CDC DASH. Monitor grant requirements and deadlines to ensure compliance with grant terms and conditions Support and coordinate an implementation plan and timeline for the grant Cultivate positive relationships with funders, partners, and project staff to enhance grant opportunities and support, including coordinating key meetings to provide updates on grant activities and requirements. Support the data collection and compiling from project leads for grant reports. Support the preparation and submission of timely and accurate grant reports to the CDC Maintain organized records of all grant-related documents and correspondence. Coordinate meetings with the OHW grant leadership team and Health Education, Health Services, and Safe and Supportive Environment grant leads and partners Support data collection and survey administration Assist with survey instrument development Program and test web-based surveys Coordinate survey fielding activities, including weekly outreach and communication with school-based staff, management of survey schedules, assembly of materials, and maintenance of survey tracking systems. Update and develop survey administration protocols, tools, and resources Support the hiring and management of part-time, hourly data collectors Adhere to and implement research protocols for national health surveys Monitor and perform quality checks on incoming data Support data reporting and dissemination Perform data entry and conduct data management, cleaning, and preliminary analyses Develop and document data-cleaning protocols Perform supplementary data analysis as directed by the Data and Evaluation Manager Compile data for ease of access, use, and sharing Create communication tools, such as tables, visuals, briefs, and interactive activities Support the creation of final publications for widespread dissemination Support the translation of the final publications into languages other than English QUALIFICATIONS - REQUIRED: Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Health Sciences, Psychology or related field with experience in survey research methods and program evaluation 2-3 years of related work experience Interest in adolescent health, school health and wellness, survey research, and/or program evaluation Strong understanding of survey research methods, program evaluation concepts, and instrument design Project coordination and research; non-professional experiences considered Proficiency with Google Suite, Excel spreadsheets and databases, and familiarity with statistical software (e.g. SPSS, SAS, etc) and web-based survey research software (e.g. SurveyMonkey, Qualtrics, and Tableau) Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines simultaneously without sacrificing quality or accuracy. Professional demeanor and ability to interact with individuals at all levels of an organization Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex ideas clearly and concisely. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with an ability to think creatively, reflect, share knowledge, and adjust course. An understanding of the principles of equity at multiple levels (e.g., racial, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, health, ability) and the need for antiracist policies and practices in research and evaluation. A deeply held and unyielding belief in the overarching mission of public education. An understanding of and commitment to gain greater understanding of what is necessary for an urban school system to enjoy continuous improvement in an increasingly complex and competitive environment. Current authorization to work in the United States QUALIFICATIONS - PREFERRED: Master of Public Health or similar degree with a concentration in survey methods, biostatistics, or epidemiology preferred. Demonstrated experience in health-related research and evaluation, outcomes measurement, and biostatistics; educational research experience desirable Advanced skills in Google Sheets or Excel Proficiency with statistical software (SPSS, SAS, etc) and web-based survey research software (SurveyMonkey and Qualtrics) Proven ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines concurrently Familiarity with Boston and Boston Public Schools TERMS: Managerial, B31.
