Living Proof is seeking a Process Engineer to manage product tech transfers and lead product quality initiatives. The position will be responsible to partner with R&D, Package Development, Supply Chain, and third-party organizations to ensure consistent product quality and uninterrupted product supply, with a focus on process scale-up, optimization and thorough product quality evaluations. This is a full-time position based at the corporate headquarters in Boston, MA, working on-site with the R&D Department.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with product development team to transform lab-scale innovations into scalable products. This includes pilot planning, establishing appropriate batch sizes, attending scale-up runs, and generating processing procedures and filling protocols.

  • Manage execution of work for timely completion of tasks per program deliverables. Present project tasks updates to cross-functional technical teams and management.

  • Develop best batch practices, routines, and innovative solutions to improve production rates and quality of output.

  • Investigate out-of-specification batches and other manufacturing issues to establish root cause and recommend corrective action steps to ensure uninterrupted production.

  • Establish continuity of batch processes between different manufacturing facilities.

  • Support qualification of new manufacturing facilities including outlining detailed qualification plans and key qualification parameters.

  • Lead internal R&D QC role in approving production batches and finished goods for final product release.

  • Represent R&D on quality steering committee and bring quality issues to R&D leads as needed, collaborate to perform root-cause analysis, and lead/assist with corrective actions.

  • Lead semi-annual quality checks to ensure top selling SKUs meet performance objectives and comply with specifications. Report results and partner with R&D teams to recommend corrective actions if needed.

  • Manage technical update projects to existing products to ensure uninterrupted production, such as qualifying alternate raw material sources, reformulating to improve product quality, and updating ingredients for regulatory compliance.

  • Manage a product maintenance tracker to clearly define scope of work, priority level, and timing for all quality and product maintenance related projects. Track progress, identify obstacles, and provide recommendations pertaining to path to production.

  • Work directly with the Product Insight and Testing Team to ensure all formulation and/or process changes deliver against pre-determined objectives and established product performance criteria.

  • Build and manage relationships with raw material vendors, contract manufacturers and external technical consultants.

  • Maintain strong working relationships within Living Proof. Use these relationships to assess/identify project opportunities and issues.

Requirements

  • BS or MS in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Pharmacy, or related science.

  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant industry experience or equivalent.

  • Strong technical understanding within the Personal Care/OTC Industry with a specific emphasis on formulation tech transfer and manufacturing.

  • Experience in requirements of bringing products from concept to launch.

  • Strong knowledge and diverse experience in personal care/cosmetic manufacturing equipment a must.

  • Technical knowledge of process scale-up challenges and QC specification development.

  • Formulation experience of multiple product forms including creams, lotions, waxes, non-aerosol sprays, and aerosols.

  • Familiar with GLP, cGMP, and QA/QC personal care industry best practices.

  • Experience with leading multiple projects in parallel and problem-solving through challenges.

  • Must possess an entrepreneurial spirit and be willing to pivot as needed when priorities change.

  • Demonstrated ability to work and communicate effectively on cross-functional teams.

  • Experience in the use of design of experiment techniques to solve manufacturing issues

  • Exhibit excellent organization, planning and multi-tasking skills. Detailed oriented is a must.
