AWS’ Elastic Block Store (EBS) is looking for an experienced Systems Development Engineer to help shape the future of cloud computing. If you’d like to take part by owning provisioning and de-provisioning systems for one of AWS’ largest services, read on!

EBS delivers high performance and scalable attached block storage for EC2, a key component of any application leveraging EC2. EBS’ infrastructure is orchestrated at massive scale by EBS’ Fleet Engineering team and the systems they develop. The Provisioning team within Fleet Engineering owns systems to provision and de-provision server infrastructure globally through orchestration of server management workflows. The Fleet Provisioning team's work has a direct impact on customer experience, EBS' operations, and our business. It's important!

As a Sr. Systems Development Engineer (SysDE) of the EBS Fleet Provisioning team you’ll assume a leadership role among a group of skilled engineers owning orchestration of the EBS fleet's provisioning and de-provisioning. You’ll provide technical and engineering leadership through designing, developing, testing, and operating mission critical fleet management systems. Your future team is a critical part of EBS. You’ll collaborate with engineers and other leaders throughout the EBS organization. You’ll work to develop a long term strategy for provisioning and de-provisioning at massive scale that aligns with EBS and AWS goals and improves our business and customer experience while maintaining a high level of service. You'll be a key contributor to ensuring EBS can meet customer demand securely and reliably at scale.

You’ll be passionate about building great technology and supporting the growth of systems and engineers delivering high quality software. You’ll enjoy working in a fast paced environment that requires strong technical and business judgment and great communication skills to own a critical responsibility and drive great outcomes.

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of programming with at least one modern language such as C++, C#, Java, Python, Golang, PowerShell, Ruby experience

  • 4+ years of non-internship professional software development experience

  • 2+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

  • 4+ years of systems development in an IT or data center environment experience

  • 4+ years of deploying and operating in a Linux/Unix environment experience

  • 2+ years of systems design, software development, operations, automation, and process improvement experience

  • Experience leading the design, build and deployment of complex and performant (reliable and scalable) software solutions in production

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1+ years of development/programming/scripting language (Python/Java/Bash/Perl) experience

  • Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations

  • Experience taking a leading role in building complex software or computing infrastructure that has been successfully delivered to customers
